I was 15 when i first heard BONDED BY BLOOD,it opened my eyes to a new found passion, real fcking metal. From start to finish the album not only kicked my ass,it slammed me to the pavement and kicked in my face..The hours spent with my friends pouring over the lyrics to BONDED are some of my most treasured memories.I had the chance to see them for their reunion tour and stood front row center,in full metal glory screaming every word as if they were written in my soul. The world has lost not only a brilliant metal icon, but a true metal soldier...R.I.P BROTHER..WE WILL MISS YOUR SCREAMS...

Ever since I first heard "bonded by blood", I knew this was the kind of music I wanted to play...

Pauls vocals on this album do exactly what they're supposed to... They are aggressive, a real kick in the face !

This album will always stay cult.

When I heard Bonded By Blood I became an Exodus Fan for life. I met Paul and the rest of the band at the State Theatre (St. Petersburg FL ), my friend and I went behind the theatre , saw their tour went up and just started talking with Paul ,Rick ,Gary and Tom,(this was 97 I think, they had a new bassist don't remember his name),Those guys, Paul especially, were the coolest motherfuckers ever. Paul asked us if we had tickets,we said HELL yeah we wouldn't miss you guys. They all ended up signing my CD's,and gave us a couple of autographed tour posters(which I'll keep forever).Exodus was a huge influence on me and I'll never forget that night. RAGE ON PAUL!!!

what a guy he was fronting one of the first legendary thrash metal bands i ever heard. bonded by blood was such an influance on so many people that the album was in the hands of all of my friends. he had his own style and attitude and loved the music he was creating with the other members. it was great to here when they got back together and put out the live album. you can feel the intensity and the chaos paul was creating on stage.ijust heard unfortunetly of him passing away today. he will be truly missed by all. rip my metal brother.

as a extremely devoted exodus fan, when i heard the sad news, i cried, i didnt cry when my grandma croked, or when i got kicked in the balls by the slut of a ex girlfriend i had, but when i heard my favoritte band lost their orginal singer, a tear came to my eye, and i realised metal will never be the same. the energy, the power the kings of thrash gave me over the years, that got me through all the bullshit we all have to deal with, is what i loved, paul gave his life to this music, and all of us love him and the band for that. unfortunally its only now that exodus is getting even a percent of credit they deserve, young metalheads and older metalheads all agree as many bands like testament, venom, destruction, slayer come close, theirs only one band that comes to define the term thrash metal, the kings of thrash EXODUS, paul, i know your in heaven jamming with chuck, randy, cliff, and such, we all fucking miss you, and thank you once again for your time with us, thank you thank you thank you, for blessing the life of the metal community, and your legacy will never be forgoton, paul baloff - -l-thrash in peace-l-

Over two and a half months have passed since the death of Paul Baloff, and I'm still have trouble believing it. Bonded By Blood is one of my favorite albums, ever. It's pure, full speed ahead, balls to the wall, bang your fucking head thrash metal. I fucking love it! Paul's distinctive voice and personality really shine through on this album. We are also fortunate enough to also be left with the live Another Lesson In Violence. Not only do we get to hear Paul and the boys rip through their classics, but we also get to hear Paul as a live frontman. He was very charismatic and judging by his in between song banter, loved his metal loud, fast, heavy, and hard. It's a shame we will never get to hear any new material from Paul again, but we are fortunate to have Bonded By Blood and Another Lesson In Violence. Those albums are Paul Baloff's musical legacy, one he has every right to be proud of, and one we are very fortunate to have in our music collections. Paul, thank you so much for your contributions to Exodus , thrash metal, and metal in general. Your music will live with me until the day I join you in that great big metalhead kingdom in the sky.

Very sincerely,

Bonded By Blood remains to this day one of my all time favorite albums. Getting to hang with Exodus, Doug Piercy, Marc Biedermann, Donny Grigg, in the summer of '85 totally blew me away. I can remember some crazy conversations with Paul from Alexis Olson's pad. Paul's spirit will remain in the memories of us all.

Still missing your presence dude. Things seem to be a lot more quite in the Bay since you've left. Me and Jack talk about you almost everyday. I wasn't able to make it to your memorial either, and its left me feeling kinda fucked up. I'm glad we were able to hang out at the Burbon Street show in Concord and smoke fat green in Tom's van. You were still the same dude I'd met at The Kabuki(Exodus,Anthrax,Raven)show in 84' and you never changed dude, always 100% fuckin real.I'm glad the band is going to continue on with Zet again, Exodus will never die...............this MUST be!!!

Back in 1985 I was heavy into underground metal which it was how it was called back then. Being an Anvil fan since 1982 I was already looking for more bands who had that same kind of energy and rawness in their music. 1983 came and I bought Metallica's Kill em All and I remember reading an interview on the band and Kirk mentioning of this other band called Exodus in which he started out.

Almost two years passed until I could finally grab that Exodus album and it became instantly one of my top five metal albums. When Paul left the band for the next record I always thought that the band had lost some it's spontaneous combustion. Nevertheless every album was great but to me it was that first bite that did it for me.

I could have the chance of seeing the band with PAul in New Jersey but it looks like time took it's advantage on me and a lot of us. But one thing it can't take away, my Bonded by Blood album. Rest in Peace Paul!!

I`ll always remember that Exodus/Slayer show in Montrealback in 1985 with Paul. Exodus had such an intense presence with Paul as the frontman. He really put that band on the map with his unique vocals and his sick lyrics. It`s a big shock to learn that someone around my age who`s been one of my teen idols dying so young.Best wishes to Paul`s friend & family.

i'll never forget when i first heard an advance copy of bonded by blood from slayer's old road manager and jeff hanneman in 1984. later in 1985 my old band had an opportunity to open for exodus in toronto on the bonded by blood tour. what intensity...even after the show when paul pulled a sink out of the wall. still holds up as the finest thrash album ever, the riffs, vocals, drumming all defined what thrash is all about. exodus will always stay with me.
a timeless album that will always keep paul alive.

exoudus ,to me was the and is is best thrash band ever, when i was about 15 in 1984,we used to hang out near 24th and church all the mission stoners would just get fucked up listing to the exodus demo and when bonded by blood came out it was the biggest thing in the underground scean in san francisco and for us,,i saw them so many times at the on broadway, the old mabuhay gardens, and i saw pauls final show at the farm before he left exodus,he were all pissed off at him leaving the band ,then i met up with him a few years later at the megadeth show and we all bullshitted for a minute ,paul was a down to earth guy just recently i found out exoudus was playing shows with him again ,and i couldnt wait to see the true metal pioneers back together again,,sadly i wont be able anymore but i will have memories ,pictures and bonded by bllod ,,that tape never gets old ,,so to me paul and exodus were the true bay area metal gods, people talk about the big 4 well to me is the big 5,,exodus,megadeth,slayer anthrax, and old metallica,i wish many more millions of people would have had the opertunity to enjoy exodus and thier music ,,i will miss u paul, you are a true metal god ,and a great human being r.i.p my brother

James Murphy with a brain tumor, Chuck Billy with cancer, Randy Castillo died from cancer, and now another great performer has to be taken from us. Paul and Exodus were founding fathers of what metal is today. Paul was a great person and musician. You will never be forgotten. Rock Heaven and Hell like theyve never been before. Exodus was one of the 1st thrash bands that I started listening to back in '84'. My favorite song was "A Lesson in Violence" every time I heard that song I wanted to pounce on some posers head. The Bonded by Blood album is in my top five thrash albums along with Reign in Blood(Slayer), Beyond the Gates(Possessed), Ride the Lighting(Ah a wonder who?) and Sream Bloody Gore(Death). I always said to my friends when we were partying and listening to the tunes, if all else fails throw on the Bonded by Blood album. It never got old. Baloff Rulessss!!!!

He had made a big impression on me, so I asked him to autograph my UFO ticket stub, the only paper I had available. We got a pen from the bar and he asked some dude to let him use his back as surface to write on, then pressed so hard I thought he was going to stab the guy! He wrote "Kill Kill." I'm sure you've been reading this extremely long thread of thoughts of the lives Paul and yourselves have touched. This alone should be a testimonial to the fact that you all have left a mark in this world. That's more than most people ever do! I never met Paul, However, I met Jack this year at NAMM, and Met GAry, Rick, and Zetro on my 18th birthday at an Exodus show in '89!! Judging by Paul's company, he must have been a really cool mofo!! A great singer/songwriter and pioneer of the thrash/metal scene will be greatly missed.I grew up to metal and the first speed band that i heard was Exodus and Metallica. As i grew older Baloff became like a long distant brother that showed in his music that metal lived and breathes in all that want to truly keep metal in our hearts and souls.Paul man,we will all miss you man.You showed me how metal can be "heavier than shit and older than time."Valeck Bathory & Disciples of Hell will miss you,you ruled with all the seeds of hate and you made all the pirahnas jump out the water.Rest in peace my exodus friend

Hey,
I just picked up this months edition of Aardschok 'zine.
(I'm from Holland).I was starting up my computer and was just going through the pages when the news section caught my eye. There I saw Paul's picture and for a split second didn't dare to look at the top of the picture 'cause I thaught I had seen a few dates there and we all know what that means. When I did look I found out what I was afraid of : PAUL IS DEAD. I cannot begin to describe how sorry I am to hear this !!!
I am thinking back of the time I heard Exodus'music for the first time and was totally blown away !
Seeing them play live at the Dynamo fest. a couple years ago was one of the best shows I've ever seen in my life.
Mainly because of this madman Paul, jumpin'all around and doin'his crazy shit.
My feelings go out to his band - members and all his fellow fans all around the world. I'm off to drink a beer in the memory of Paul Baloff. His body has died but his Metal - spirit will live on in all of us. Cheerzzzz Paul !!!!!!

It seems like yesterday, back in 1997, that Exodus played at Bogart's in Cincinnati with Paul Baloff. It's a real shame that Paul had to leave us this soon. I was really looking forward to seeing him perform with Exodus again. Oh well, we all know that life is temporary and mortality is inevitable. I will remain a hugh Exodus fan as long as I live.

Sincerely,

Bonded was one of the first thrash metal cassettes I ever owned. As an angry, energetic teenager, the music became a major source of happiness in my life, at a time when I needed it most. It was a special album, and it has and always will stand the test of time.

Although I did not know him, his music represents a special time in my life when all I needed was my '70 Mustang, some beer, and my metal - nothing else mattered. I believe that the music gave me something to be proud of, and something to retreat to when things got difficult.

I'm all grown up now, and I turned out OK. I'll always be a metaller, and the music and memories live on inside of me and all the rest who embraced the music. As anothere person wrote, Paul was Exodus, and he died doing what he loved to do.

All I know is that when I go to heaven, I need not fear of getting lost. I'll just follow the sound of metal.

RIP

Living down here (P.R.)there was no chance in hell to me to see great bands. But several years ago I finally made my trip to the Milwaukee metal fest and to my surprise EXODUS were scheduled to play.I was 14 years (the perfect time)when I discovered the mighty Bay area scene!!! USA's scene has never been the sane since that era, definitely it was the best of times.Exodus left me completely shocked that night that even today I have never felt the same watching any other band live.Exodus proved that night that every band in that fest were completely rookies!!!!!

Sometimes you may think that your heroes live forever... and definitely they do !!!!!

Rest in peace Paul,

Back in the mid 80's, I was getting really into the extreme metal stuff, with bands like Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and of course, EXODUS. A few years later I got the chance to form my own thrash band, Draksen, and EXODUS were definitely a HUGE influence on me. I just loved the way Paul Baloff sang on their immortal "Bonded by Blood" album. It was just so intense and raw, yet, so musically precise, you had to admire Paul and the band. It's an irony that I just recently purchased that CD (I had the vinyl since it came out in '85), and it brought me so many good memories of that era, and how I just loved the thrashing whipping sound of Exoudus. Whatever the reason was for Paul to passed away, he WILL be sorely missed. EXOUDS was an extremely popular band at the time down here in Mexico. It's a shame we never got to see neither EXOUDS nor Paul playing with EXODUS. Nevertheless, "The Ultimate Revenge" video was a highly soought after item down here, and it's our huge pleasure to at least having seen him on video. May his soul rest in piece. He will be forever missed and NEVER forgotten. I'll meet you someday, Paul!!!

Ever been to the 8x10 in Bawl-timore?

That's how big the fuckin' place is.

I had the double treat of seeing Exodus twice on the Another Lesson... tour. (Two weeks earlier I saw them tear shit up at the Milwaukee Metal Fest.)

Big stage, small stage... didn't fucking matter. Paul Baloff had so much intensity he even got my lame-ass friends in the damn pit.

Last song of the show, Baloff leaps into the air and jumps off the fucking stage... breaks or twists his ankle and manages to finish the song then limps over to a barstool and parks it for the evening.

Busted or not, he still signed my CD booklet (which is nearly destroyed from being in my pocket during two excursions thru the Exodus pit) and thanked me for coming to the show.

Thanks to everyone here who shared their memories.

I'll close by saying I can't wish Paul to rest in peace -- he'd be much happier breaking everything in sight, no matter where he might be.

Rage on like a motherfucker, dude...

First Cliff then Chuck now Paul.
Fuck this sucks to have to write how I feel about the death of a man who helped make metal ( REAL METAL ) what it is today.
I'm shattered to say the least.
As I live in Australia I never did get the opportunity to see Exodus or even meet Paul, but needless to say the man & his music have given me hours of pleasure.
I work on a community radio station in rural South Australia & I can promise you all that when I return home I will be dedicating my first show back to Paul by playing "Another lesson in violence" in it's entirty.
The reason is simple, it's as heavy as fuck & shows Paul in full swing.
To all of Paul's mates I offer my sincere condolances.

Let's all keep it heavy & not worry about those fuckwit's who dis' Paul because we all know the truth.

Paul was a true original, am maverick in metal. He lived like he wrote and sang, pure chaos and mayhem. His antics off stage dwarfed his antics on stage. The memorial was a great way to send him off. The thoughts and sentiments of all the speakers, as well as those shared off mic between friends and family, was exceptionally gratifying. Paul will be sorely missed, but his life will be celebrated in the hearts and minds of all those who knew him, and those who he influenced. Death to false metal and God forbid should a poser cross his path! Paul, you created the lifestyle, which very few of us could hold a candle to. A true icon. I think I heard a rock being thrown through a window in God's house. Has anyone seen Paul? Paul? See ya later, Paul.

I realize that Paul was a huge impact of alot of people.
I always thought that it was just a SF thing. After I saw Paul
do the Exodus thing ,I realized that Zetro was a replacement.A great replacement! I cannot diss this man.
He did some great work w/Exodus.I hope they continue
with him but I think that Paul would want Exodus to break up.Paul! This is for you if you can read e-mail where you're

been really good friends.I contemplate my own mortality
a little more now.Metal all the way no holds barred and

To the Baloff Family, Exodus and extended global family who loved Paul my sympathy and prayers are with you.

I have vivid memories of Paul and Exodus. I first had friends in high school give me a demo tape. The tape said "a lesson in violence, kill all posers!!". The intensity, savage, lethal edge of Exodus and in particular Paul's vocal delivery are metal standards to this very day.

Kabuki theatre, Bonded by Blood record release party. Paul set the tone early. Brutal, violent, chaos of aggression and celebration of release. From that day onward I take my stand and obey, "metal command".

We will all miss you, and our hearts are a little heavy.
However, your scar and this earth is forever, bonded by blood.

Thanks for being there Paul, you really helped us all.

I have the pleasure of meeting Paul backstage at Dynamo and what a crazy animal he was, friendly and funny. I remember him saying kill posers which was kind of funny.

Paul you were a star and you will never be forgotten, now it is time for Exodus to carry on as a tribute to you. God bless you, you crazy bastard!! To the guys in Exodus, keep the faith and to Pauls family I am sorry that you lost a great guy.

This was the eulogy I gave Paul at his memorial at the DNA Lounge on the 12th

At about 8 am on the morning of Friday, Feb 1st 2002, my phone rang. It was Gary Holt from Exodus. I sensed something bad had happened by the shaky tone of his voice but I was in no way prepared for the news he was about to give me. Gary informed me that my good friend, Paul Baloff was in the hospital. As he told me the details of what happened to Paul, he got pretty choked up. I knew serious was an understatement for this situation but there's always that surrealistic denial that you go through whenever something fucked up like this happens. Here I have Gary Holt telling me Paul is pretty much gone but yet it's not really sinking in. Obviously it's because I didn't want to believe what I was hearing.

A few hours later I got to the hospital and saw Paul on life support. I guess that's when reality finally set in....and it set in hard. Paul's girlfriend Lita was with him. She was looking at me with tears streaming down her face and wth a look of disbelief that this was all happening to Paul.

I stayed with Paul for the whole day. Many people showed up to be with him as well as the day progressed. The doctors we spoke to showed us his catscans and explained how Paul had suffered 3 other minor strokes over the last year. We asked if Paul had any consciousness. They said absolutely not but there were times when we'd all talk to him and hold his hand to let him know we were there for him. I swear, Paul knew. He moved his leg or gripped your hand slightly.

The next day Paul died.

later that night we had a small get together at Paul's studio. On the wall were all kinds of pictures of Paul over the years. People who were Paul's friends from over the years were signing the wall and leaving messages for him. Metallica's fade to black was playing on the stereo. Paul's dog Level was walking around making small whimpering noises as if he knew Paul was gone.

That was one of the most saddest days of my life. I'm not ashamed to admit, I lost it...bigtime.

At least he didn't suffer and at least he went out surrounded by people who truly loved him. I know it's a fucked up situation for Exodus because they were just starting to get some momentum toward a comeback...not to mention losing their friend. Anyways, I thnk it was better that Paul went out with a full plate than if he died with nothing happening in his life. He had a girlfriend who really cared for him and I believe his last days were happy ones.

I still can't believe he's gone though. It's a very empty feeling. Paul was my friend. I thought he'd outlive us all. The guy was the original survivor. He was a tough fucker and lived a lifestyle that would have killed any mortal human being years ago. He was also the funniest guy I've ever met. Around 7 years ago, we both found ourselves between homes. Paul made a grim situation seem like a camping trip. No matter how depressing a situation was, Paul Baloff could always make you laugh. He was also one of the most talented people I've ever met. Paul could've done anything if he set his mind to it.

There were three things Paul Baloff loved more than anything.....His dog Level, Exodus and indoor barbecue.

I first met Paul around 13 years ago. I was living in Los Angeles and made a trip to the Bay Area to interview all the members of Exodus for Tales From The Pit. The video magazine that I produce. Paul and I became instant friends. A year later I moved to the Bay Area because all the bands that I love are from here. Over the years, I've tried to do everything in my power to promote Paul. Keep him in the spotlight during his downtimes and hopefully distribute some of his genius to the people who were in the dark about him. The guy was a natural performer. He was an improvisational genius and I just fucking loved the guy. we all did. Hell, the guy could pick your pocket and steel your bike but you'd still fuckin love him. I'm glad I got to know Paul. I know he considered me his friend. I will miss him.

So, where ever Paul is right now....I'm sure he's breaking shit with a baseball bat and making our other lost friends, Cliff Burton, Chuck Schuldiner and others laugh their fucking asses off.

First of all I want to thank everybody for their love and support on behalf of the band and myself.
Thank you to everybody that attented the memorial last tuesday and to the people that were unable to attent, we felt your presence, your thoughts and prayers.

Now to you idiots: Understand that bands like Metallica, Slayer, ect. have been friends with Paul Baloff and Exodus for over 20 years and when somebody's personal friend decides to write a post about Paul, no matter who he is or what their band is doing or hasn't done, you do not have the right to respond in the negative manner that some of you have choosen to do.
If you want to write negative stuff regarding these posts, take it some place else.
This board is for people that pay their respects to a friend, regardless of their musical or personal background and we would like to keep it that way.

Thank you, have a nice day

I recall from a VH1 special, the one on Metallica I believe, where Paul talks about early thrash metal in San Francisco and how al this crunch thing was way new. Then he goes on to describe the impact of heavy metal, saying it tickles the same funny bone that makes you wanna smash in windows when you were a kid.

Right on, Paul!

One last thing on Paul, which is rather funny now in retrospect. I remember being in my late teens and my mother (his mothers sister)told me that Paul got in big trouble for rolling huge boulders down through neighborhoods in the Berkeley Hills and destroying things. I remember laughing and saying to myself........yep, I better stay away from Berkeley for awhile until all calms down! You are cradled in the arms of your mom and dad once again.......see you the next life.

I saw Exodus with Anthrax and the old Rtiz in 1986. I never saw such a great frontman and an amazing voice come out anybody, ever! The album Bonded By Blood was one of many truely fantastic albums tbat my friends and I played over and over, till our casette tape wore out and rerecorded over again and again. Paul will be sorely missed from our world and he is now a better place. I'll see ya'later brother of metal and may God watch over you.

Paul, wherever the fuck you are, I just want to let you know that the first time I heard ya singing it was when I was 5 years old. During that time, my brother listened to lots of THRASH METAL bands, of course, EXODUS was one of them. Then, when I was 16 years old, I became a real metalhead and one of the first band I started listening to was EXODUS. I really love your voice style and also you are one of my favorite singers. Once I had the chance to see your show in November of 1998 when you played with EXODUS in Chile, But I couldn't make it for lack of money. My friend told me about that show. Unfortunately, I couldn't see the show. Nowadays, I live in Canada. My dream always was to be a singer one day. Now, I'm a singer withj many plans in the future and ,of course, to play metal as hell. BOnded by blood always, my friend.

I remember in 1986, and about 15 yrs old being in a shitty little town In South Dakota, and hanging with 6 metalheads in the town. I discoved Bonded by Blood and I loved the album, we used to listen to it while we were drinking and would just destroy what ever room we were in, and course people came to realize not let us jam at their partys. I was shocked to hear of Paul passing I want to say him and exodus that their music help alot out during those times during with ignorance people. This is so erie, because right at the beginning of February I was digging through my old tapes and came across a metal masterpiece: BONDED BY BLOOD. I popped it in the deck and listened with great joy and reminiscence as Paul spewed out some classic lyrics. I began wondering what he was up to nowadays, knowing for certain that he was keeping the metal spirit alive in his heart. Well, Paul, as I'm writing this I'm drinking one for you and just know that in life, as well as the afterlife, you are thought of and greatly missed.

Paul altough I never got to meet you in person or see you live in concert, you will never be forgotten. I will always remember the story that Doug Pearcy and Lee Altus from Heathen told on the Hard And Heavy Videos of the time you asked to see a dead poser. That was funny. To Gary, Rick, Tom and the rest of Exodus, although you may not be able to do it now, you have to carry on. Remember my favourite Paul quote "Play with your heart and fucking rage!!!" I think it would be great to have Steve "Zetro" Souza back in the band. Please carry on. You guys are to good a band not go on.

Like so many others, I was an early convert to the thrash sounds coming out of the Bay Area in the mid-80's. Exodus were one of the bands that had a lasting impact on me, as friends and I used to trade many albums of Exodus' to friends in eastern Europe. Without Exodus, I probably wouldn't ever have gotten into so many bands and certainly wouldn't have been this involved in the music industry. I'm sure all of us will miss Paul a lot and I'd like to extend my deepest sympathies to his friends, bandmates and family. Your loss is as great as ours. Rest in peace, Paul.

Paul was one of, if not my favorite musician of all time. I remember people would give me shit for saying it, but i truely believed that Paul had something that no one else posessed, a certain energy about him and his music. I grew up listening to exodus and idolizing them for their great albums and i still listen to exodus almost on a daily basis. Paul stood up for what he believed in and was a kind and caring human being and gave me a strive to become the musician that i am today. Thanks for the great music and may your spirit carry on.

I just heard the other day that my cousin Paul had passed away through he family grapevine. Saddended indeed. We played together as tots. His sister and myself were a few years older but he had cool stuff in his room always to play with. Tragically, his dad died when Paul and his sister were real young and his mom passed away several years later. I had heard of Paul's fame and gifts but we never connected. Thinking back to those innocent times where we ran the hills of Berkeley. Sad and yet remember the sublime innocence.

The world lost one of their greatest, a genius man. THE KING OF METAL IS GONE. I hope you hang with Hendrix, Bon Scott, Burton, Schuldiner and Carl Albert and jam Exodus material, like strike of the beast.

Pero, como dice Dream Theater en el Metropolis pt.2:"Remember, the death is not the end,it´s only a Transition......".

That`s a show I think I remember every second from - so intense was it. Paul was such a freak!!! When the band reformed a few years ago I visited 3 european shows and did Paul Baloff somehow wimped out? Fuck no!!!! He was crazier than ever, he looked crazier than ever, he said so many incredible things on stage. For me an idol when it comes to stage performance! 41, that`s a fucking shame1 But I know one thing - I`ll keep him in my heart forever!

I was pissing when some fucker was trying to piss on my shoes. I waited to see who came out.Instead of coming out the door to the toilet he started riping apart the stall.
I peeked through the krack to see who it was.It was Paul.
We got eye contact he stop made a growl, and continute to thrash the bathroom.I thought to my self this guy is what

Exodus inspired me when i was a teenager just picking up a guitar, and later i was lucky enough to meet them all in Europe and the US.
Paul was a true metal legend and his contribution to Metal wont fade fast.
I fondly remember the show in germany when myself and Nick Barker had 'Metal Command' dedicated to us.Still one of the fircest shows i evere saw.

I'm only 21 today, and had the misfortune of missing out on the early eighties when exodus, and so many other thrash metal bands surfaced, but not a day goes by that I don't regret being born too late, and being forced to become a second-hand spectator to the music and art that I love more than anything in the world. Not an educated person you talk to about thrash won't mention Paul as a pioneer in this style. I find it such a shame that Metallica, a band spawned in a way by Exodus, has watered down. It seemed like only yesterday Paul was rejoining Exodus, and now he has left them for good.

We heard that Paul died a few days ago, and we can only say, that the world lost a highly remarkeable person, too soon. For me and my bandmates Exodus was and will be always a big influence, their last live output with Paul on vocals is, in our opinion, a milestone in liverecordings, ever. The combination of humour and extreme heavyness combined with very high instrumental standard will hardly be reached again by anyone. To all the people that were directly related to him there is only one thing to say - be strong !

almost a month after his death and I'm still feel the huge lost. I saw him here at Belo Horizonte (Brazil) at a killing performance after a couple of lousy crappy bands. It was magic, Exodus saved my soul that night. The notice of his death was unexpected and i still remember the weird thing I felt at the moment that I heard of his death... Unfortunatelly, they seemed to be active againg and this shit happened. Steve Souza is good, but Paul Baloff was the master, his voice trully ripped through my ears over the hears, since I was introduced to Exodus. And they all, specially Paul is guilty to give power to at least one anti-social aggressive demented maniac heavy listener i know.

Did you guys know that Combat released A CD 1991 by Exodus called A lesson In Violence. There are 3 studio songs with Baloff singing Pleasures of the flesh, braindead and seeds of hate, originally recorded 1986, it was an advance tape before he left Exodus. Those songs rule! And there are 7 tracks live in New York 85 (The Ultimate Revenge gig)That CD was supposed to be an official release by Combat, but the band said NO after the pressings, so I heard Combat had to trash the whole shit, but somehow someone got hold of a couple of hundred copies, that CD is rare as hell!

I am only 17 and am far behind as far as late 80's/early 90's metal goes but I know that credit should be given where credit is due. I have grown up on one-hit-wonders as mainstream sensations but have not fallen for the insincerity of this music and how these artists are 100% sell-outs. I love music which reflects a certain emotion given by an artist 110% which Paul Baloff totally and completely did. I love hard rock/metal and salute everyone about to rock - especially Pual Baloff. R.I.P.
Sincerely,
Scot Petrie

im in my early 30s and grew up listening to all the great metal acts that were carving out a new style of metal right before our eyes. somthing that i will never forget the energy and passion of those times and bonded by blood was always a fav. and it was beacuse of pauls singing style.it was uniqe and almost scary! he definitly got the vibe across! there was no bullshittin around.while all the band guys are about 10 years older than me they helped me in tough times in my youth to stand up for your self and dont take crap from people when it was uncalled for!!i think now in my band "brandnew2ndhand" an exodus cover is at stake!!

I didn't ever get the chance to hear Exodus, Unfortunately there isnt a station here that plays some of the awesome bands that maybe didn't go mainstream or werent that popular among the 'mainstream audience' (Anthrax, Demons and Wizards, Exodus, Flotsam and Jetsam, etc.). I have heard alot of Paul through Metallica, and from that I could feel that he was an awesome guy. After reading the statement from Kirk Hammett on this page, I had to write in. Paul, those who knew you will be that much greater, and have that much more happiness.

Although I can't remeber the exact date, I do remeber the metal. I saw Exodus with Paul Baloff at the Mason Jar in Phoenix Az, a couple years ago. It was one of the heaviest metal shows I've ever seen at the Mason Jar. And anyone in the Phoenix area can tell, Exodus was one to remember. That was the 1st and only time I saw Paul, and it was one of the best shows I have ever seen. I only wish I could have gotten an autogragh or a picture to celebrate a great vocalist.

RIP Paul. You are One of the greatest!!!!

Exodus was the very first Thrash band that grabbed me,
It was the mid 80's and I had brought a copy of bonded by blood and it just blew me away.
Your music had a fundamental impact on my life by introducing me to thrash you influenced me to become who I am today.
For that I am extremely thankful.
I only heard about your death today, and it brings great sadness to my heart, I am 29 and I feel that a hidden Icon of my generation has now gone forever.

I hope your music will bring pleasure
to countless other generations as it has done
to mine.

Good luck to a friend I never met.

Paul influenced the whole way of singing in real heavy music, such as black and thrash metal. His voice and his approach were the things that made "Bonded By Blood", like he said himself, heavier than time!

I would like to say that I will miss Paul Baloff and think of him always as a great frontier in the Metal Music family. I have many fond memories of Paul that I will always cherish. Paul lived, breathed, and ate Metal 100%. He loved the music and all the people, and was always ready for a good time.

The world has suffered a great loss of a wonderful man. R.I.P., Paul.

Your Friend,
Chuck Billy

Pioneers of the Bay Area Thrash Metal genre, Paul Baloff and EXODUS have influenced the metal community worldwide with their debut release "Bonded by Blood". It is and will always be a favorite of mine. My sympathies go out to his family, friends, and bandmates, as we all feel his untimely loss. I/we will miss Paul greatly, especially his stories and hearing him say: "That's so heavy!" Paul was genuinely kind to everyone he met and always made me feel special.

So go now to the metal kingdom in the sky and rest easy...

I will forever remember you!

I met Paul one night in Petaluma, when Pirahna opened for Skitzo at the Phoenix theatre. After Pirahna's set, I made my way back stage to meet Baloff. Paul was an open guy, easy to talk to. i think I was wearing a GWAR shirt, & he proceeded to tell me the story how he went to a GWAR show, saw one of the members wearing w/ a wolf pelt & skull, & Paul punched the guy out cold. We then had a brief discussion about wolves, & I learned of his love of them. I thought man, this guy not only rages, but is genuine & loyal to his beliefs. A true spirit in his own right. If it wasn't for Baloff & EXODUS, the Bay Area Metal Scene would not have been the true Legend it is now. R.I.P., brother. We will never forget.

Plug in your BC Rich, set up that kit, string up yer bass and get back out there. Show respect and keep it alive. It only dies if we let it. If Selloutica won't (and they WON'T) then we will.

I was going to see Paul Baloff for the first time in Anaheim Calf. on Feb. 8, 2002. Paul died almost exactly a week before the show. I was saddened then, and I am even more sad now after reading all these stories posted about Paul. What a truly unique person he was!!! He sounded like a very cool guy who loved to party and enjoy life. I grew up in Southern California (Irvine) and these 2 brothers from Napa (Northern Calif.) got me into Exodus and Mercyfull Fate. There names are Randy and Graham Charles. If you know them, or are them, post a message here with your email (I'll have my e-mail back soon) or just say hi on the site. These 2 guys got me into metal. If it wasnt for them, I wouldnt know Paul Baloff. And for that, I am certain, I would be a lesser of a person.

I'm a sixteen year-old wannabe rock star who has been influenced greatly by the thrash tunes from the eighties. Paul Baloff was one of the guys who I thought was awesome. His vocals were as pioneering in the thrash scene as Cliff Burton's bass was, it was as pioneering as Brian Tatler's guitar hooks were. No doubt about it, Paul Baloff was and always will be awesome. His lyrics are legendary. Sometimes his interesting way of viewing the world in the songs on the Bonded By Blood album have inspired me to have a good day that day, or just get back with some loser that pissed me off. That is why I love Baloff like a father. A father of a certain kind of child. A child known as thrash metal. Let us always think of the great master Paul Baloff with a smile because he was only out to have some fun.
We love ya, Paul.

I heard the news last night from a guy in an exodus shirt at a judas priest show in nyc ...at first i thought he was just drunk...and then i learned the truth...the first time i saw exodus was on the reuonion tour in 97 in connecticut....i was 16 years old and couldn't drive so my parents dropped me off by myself.....it was unbelieveable the energy that paul gave off...it's one of my finest memories...exodus' music means so much to me and the respect i have for paul's work is immeasurable...the music was all about being true...not submitting to trends....always be heavy and never give up...even though that's a message for metal, it also works for a lot of things in life.....the music has helped me bring myself up when i was at my lowest.....it gave me the power to fight back when i had no will to.....i thank you paul for all your work and how it has affected my life......and i know paul would want exodus to continue,,,the world needs your brand of aggesive and emotionally charged music now, more than ever......don't let paul's work be in vane....i humblely ask the members of exodus to move ahead and play for paul's memory....he would want that i think....paul, you will be missed.....rest in peace.....

THE PRE-PARTY @ THE POUND THE NIGHT BEFORE TOTT GIG WAS FUNNY AS HELL.....MY BUDDY HAD TO TAKE A PISS & DID'NT WANT TO WAIT IN LINE INSIDE SO I TOLD HIM TO GO PISS IN THE PARKING LOT BECAUSE NO ONE WAS THERE.
SO.....IT WAS AN EMPTY PARKING LOT.MY BUDDY IS STANDING THERE PISSING WITH NO ONE AROUND.I LOOK BACK 30 SECONDS LATER & ABOUT 6 PEOPLE ROLLED OUT OF A CAR & THEY WERE STANDING THERE WATCHING HIM PISS & LAUGHING @ HIM.....ONE OF THOSE GUYS WAS BALOFF.MY BUDDY REALIZED IT WAS BALOFF & BLURTED OUT WHILE PISSING,& BEING PRETTY DRUNK,"HEY...YOU'RE PAUL BALOFF"! NEEDLESS TO SAY THEY WERE PROBABLY LAUGHING BECAUSE MY FRIEND DID'NT CARE WHO WAS WATCHING HIM OR HE HAD A VERY SMALL DICK & THEY THOUGHT HE WAS FUNNY.

Man it must have been almost 20 years ago now, I was livin in Winnipeg, MB Canada & we were all stoked because Exodus was in town & we were gonna get to hear Bonded By Blood. I'm not sure who or what the fuck up was? the promotor probably cause they never played the gig which was gonna be on a Saturday I think anyway Sunday night rolls around & a friend of a friend says Exodus is still in town at his buddies. Cool, we'll get to meet em at least. We had some beer, a couple bottles & some tasty greens so we head over. I guess the boys saw us comin & they were bored & restless cause I barely made it in the door & some guy I'd never seen before grabs my 40 of Vodka outa my hand & goes to take a swig. I look at em like what the fuck? & he asks kinda after the fact if he can partake. I says sure man go for it & he pounds 4 of 5 oz back. He looks kinda familiar as he passes the bottle back he says thanks man my names Paul. We did the intro thing & shot the shit with the band the gig fell through so they were bored & wanting to get to the next gig but they were happy to see us. They were all nice & cool & not just cause we had booze & weed but I'm sure that didn't hurt. I kinda got to see them jam abit & it wasn't as cool as a gig but it was all right & that's how I met Paul. It's a damn shame about what happened. I was bummed when I heard what happened & it made me think of this for the 1st time in years. Paul was a hell of a nice guy, a little grabby:) but a cool guy, shit they all were seeing as the trip up turned out to be for nothing. I'm listening to Metal Command for the 1st time in a while but I guess Paul's done thrashing here & he's taken his last stand but I'm sure where he is he's still rockin hard. I just hope he waited for the almighty to pass him the bottle.
Probably not:) Rest Easy Paul & the rest of you take care.

Cheers,
Dain

Just another person who's gone.
A great loss for the thrash.
I am happy that I still have the album Bonded by Blood, and it is a good memory of Paul.

Rest in Peace.
