Exodus is one of my Favorite Thrash band of all time. I remember the first time i heard Bonded by Blood, whew! goosebumps! can't describe the feeling. I like the how Paul sings, very aggressive.
Too bad he left us, but his memories will live forever as long as i have my BBB vinyl!
Thank you Paul, you will never be forgotten.....

I don't want to believe that he's gone. I still have my tattered vinyl copy of Bonded By Blood, purchased 16 years ago (I was 14 at the time). I couldn't believe the intensity, and Paul's vocal delivery was a huge part of that. He will be sorely missed.

Wow! What bad news for the metal scene. Another big lost to metalheads around the world. When I was a little metal head back in the 80s. I use to buy records because of the cover art. Which Bonded by Blood lp has killer cover. I had to buy it, even not hearing a second of it. Soon I got home I laid down the needle...Bang! The loudest metal I heard to date. But what was really different was the vocals. I never heard a vocalist that sounded so twisted & mad. I was in metal glory. Exodus & Paul really blew the doors open with a new sound in metal. To this day Bonded by Blood still remains fresh sounding. I saw Paul with Exodus in Cleveland with Venom & Slayer on the Combat tour. What a fuckin' show! Ever time I listen to Bonded by Blood it gives me great memories. You well not be forgotten Paul. BONDED BY METAL! R. I. P. "Metal Mike" Albertson

I am one to express emotion through anger instead of any other way, but when Paul died, it brought a tear to my eye. Paul was a great frontman. Not the greatest voice, but everything else that makes up a frontman more than made up for that. Without a doubt, the legacy he has already created will forever live on, he's done too much for it not to. Paul, we miss you, and wherever you are, I know you will have no trouble remaining as metal as you've always been. Thank you so much for everything you've done.

It's hard to believe Paul is gone... A good friend told me about it the other day and it is barely starting to sink in. I was fortunate enough to start getting into thrash metal when Exodus was coming along. I remember back in high school cranking Kill 'em all and going to my first real metal show - Raven, Anthrax and Exodus at the Kabuki Theatre in S.F. I was 16 and freaking out on the crowd and the wild response that Exodus got when they came out and kicked ass on stage. I learned than what a true metal fan was and the meaning of "NO LOVE". Anthrax was on their first tour and people were spitting on them because the fans wanted more Exodus. Being from Hollister and living a two hour drive away from S.F., I still managed to go see Exodus a dozen times over the years and every time it was worth it. They never dissapointed and Paul was just a maniac on stage. Hearing of his death brings me sadness and a flood of great memories of my younger years driving my dad's big ass station wagon(the "Fate Mobile" - named after Mercyful Fate) filled with all my buds. I even remember driving all the way to S.F. the day "Bonded by Blood" came out, I barely made it to the Record Vault just as they were closing. I had to beg the guy to let me in to buy the album. Paul was a great presence in the Bay Area metal scene and Exodus was a driving force of metal in the '80's . "This ain't no gold fish, this ain't no trout" - Love you Paul - R.I.P. - Thanx for the memories.

Does anyone know if there was a private family memorial service for Paul, or was he against those types of services?

I can relate to Paul, since he must've bucked the high brow academia of his family. His half-brother is a noted college professor.

He was a really cool person, and the world is missing an original personality. I won't go into how empty I feel, since that's not important.

I remember when I first heard about Paul's condition, I was at the Anthrax/Priest gig in St. Pete FL @ Jannus Landing,. Scott got on the mic and told us all that Paul had died.Little did I know that Paul wasnt axtually dead yet, and that they were going to pull the plug at midnight just a little while after the show ended, but it still made it impossible to enjoy the rest of the show. This fucking sucks. It was one of those moments that you try to block out, but it's just fucking impossible. I remember about 4 years ago, buying Bonded By Blood because I knew Kirk Hammett used to be in Exodus, and it just grabbed me by the balls and never let go, and it has a firm grip on my sac till this very day.Just fucking brutal.I remember when I heard news of Thrash of The Titans, I planned to raise enough money to skip school, and drive all the way from FL to CA to see the show, and seeing Exodus w/ Paul was THE main reason I wanted to go.I didnt make it. I only had a learner's permit, and I ran out of gas and money by the time I got to Texas, and was forced to call my parents and tell them what happened.Paul seemed like a fucking maniac on stage. I have a few bootlegs, and if you have ANOTHER LESSON IN VIOLENCE ,you can just tell the man is intense onstage just by the way he sounds.i caught wind of a possible tour called the Bay Area Invasion, and I thought to myself "This is it! your Gonna see Exodus!!'"...Well, I guess I'll be seeing Exodus minus a very important part.If there was anyone more metal than Paul, I dont know about it.Well, I'm 17 years old right now,and I always thought that when I formed a band, I'd get real well known in the metal scene, and that I'd be able to meet all my heroes and tell them how much they influenced be. Well, not ALL my heroes.Nothing any of us can do will ever bring him back, but we can still support the scene that he helped to create.I'll continue to support metal as i'm doing now, and as I've been doing since I was 11.Just keep pressing on, and dont ever let metal die, and never forget those who have fallen. Not sure what else to say really, it's been a few weeks since he's died and I'm still rattled by it.Lets make Paul proud.

My friends and I are going to see the Metal Meltdown in Asbury Park,NJ April5/6, we saw Exodus on the website playing. We all started talking about the good old Paul/Exodus days, couldn't wait to relive the past kick ass songs. Then we heard of his passing. "Only the Good Die Young" We hope Exodus is still playing the festival, maybe a nice tribute from the other bands there would be great also.

Fuck! I thought Baloff was made out of steel wool and kitchen cleaner -- indestructible and not biodegradable. Reading so many messages from his friends here, it confirms that Paul had the biggest heart on the West Coast metal scene. It seems like rallying the die-hard rockers from Y&T shows in the late 1970s, he spurred the Bay Area thrash scene onward to conquer the world in the name of raging. Bonded by Blood will always be one of my favorite albums. Seeing Exodus on the '90s reunion tour was a dream come true. I got smashed against a pillar at CBs and cracked my tailbone -- had to laugh at the fucking violence. Beware! Fluids from Paul Baloff's corpse will seep into the Bay Area water supply to choke and suffocate all posers!! Clouds of diabolic mist will rain destruction on the unready!! Maidens will be immaculately impregnated! Priests will have coughing fits! His example survives. (And somebody better feed Paul's dog a few fat juicy steaks....)

Paul Baloff, heart & soul of the bayarea metal

Vividly I remember 1984/85. Some albums came out who entirely changed my view at music: Ride the lightning by Metallica, Show no mercy by Slayer, Killing is my business by Megadeth and Bonded by blood by Exodus. It was a crazy time. So many good bands appeared and played the fastest metal at that time. After that nothing was the same.

And now here we are, so many years later. It's very strange, a lot has happened in metal. Hearing about Paul made me very, very sad. Some years ago I met Paul at the Dynamo club, we had brief talk and I was struck by the way Paul lived, breathed Heavy Metal. I think there is no better way than remember Paul by playing the Exodus live album "another lesson in violence" This man is more than just a singer; its a frontman and a standup comedian.

And then where none....

First time I ever heard of Exodus, was on a compilation called "Speed Kills".
That long ago, can't even remember how young I was (now I'm 33).
One song, for me, just stole the whole album, "Lesson In Violence".
Then when I bought "Bonded By Blood", I knew I had an album that I would be listening to for a long time.
I now own a CD copy, it still gets played to death, after all these years.
For me, the best thrash albums ever are "Reign In Blood", "Ride The Lightining" and of course, "Bonded By Blood".
Exodus may never have been one of the biggest, but they were definately one of the best.
There's now a new star in the sky and it shines the brightest of all.
R.I.P Paul and thank you for giving us the best thrash album ever.
My deepest condolences to your friends and family.

After listening to that song I got the rest of their albums. Paul had a lot of character. Paul was one of the most important people in thrash metal history. It was amazing see Paul sing Bonded By Blood on the stage of the old Studio 54 in NYC. In 97, I came to US to watch Pantera with Exodus but the show was cancelled and I only could watch Pantera. That was a great missing for me. I will never be able to see you in my life, but my metal heart will always be with you. God bless you, say hello to all the hard rockers out there. I hope we'll jam together over there. Thrash till death, thrash after death!

Paul could make me laugh all day & night with some of the rarest rawest vebal assault ammunition ever spoken by any one man...Paul lived for his wolves and his convictions...He loved & respected his mother & father with ALL of his heart...there was nothing this man would not do for true friend...one night back in '92 or '93 we were at the cow palace for megadeth/suicidal tendencies gig & of course when you are with PAUL you are ALL access so we had run of the palace & everything was to the extreme...anyway Paul & I were looking for a place to power up and he just goes marching up into the seats & finds us 2 about half way up the arena...ALL the while neither of us has a surface or anything to do the deed...without a moments notice PAUL holds out his hand flat & steady. He looked at me and shrugged with that unmistakable BALOFF smile...first me then him right off of his hand while megadeth was demolishing the stage & our ears...he looked at me and said "this is insane(he paused) we are insane this is a fucking kill party! Rat out of time i'd rather die than give you my life Rat out of time jugadung, jugadung, jung ,jung, jung" i will ALLways remember you as one of my best and closest friends.

I was fortunate to hang with Paul the day before the Thrash of the Titans show, what a funny, cool, down to earth person he was. The song piranha had a big impact on me, when I first heard it, and I remember the look on my dad's face when I showed him the album and asked him to buy it for me. To see him perform with Exodus, finally, was well worth the trip from NY, and the pictures he was cool enough to take with me, will be treasured. Sorry this is sappy, just having a tough time expressing myself.

Exodus Bonded by Blood lp was masterful! Paul was the strongest vocalist in my opinion. He had charisma. The music is not pretty, it's about get in the Pit and Kill posers!!! Always! Ultimate Revenge video captures the magic of Exodus the best. Raw, primal energy with Venom, Slayer influences. I am saddened by this news and wish his family and allies the Best! Hello, this is Michael Butler. I played bass and toured on the Exodus 'Force of Habit' album period. These were probably 2 of the best years of my life. Although Steve Souza was the singer at that time, Paul came to probably every show we played in the Bay area. He was always in front of the stage rocking out for the entire set. I would always see him backstage and he was really very friendly and had absolutely no hard feelings about Zetro being on stage instead of him. He came up and sang on Pirhanna a lot of our shows and the crowd would always go nuts. I never really new him that well, but he always spoke to me like he was my friend. I know Gary thought the world of him. Gary, my condolences to you. You are one of the only TRUE rockers I know and I am sure you will come out of this on top.

Sincerely,
Michael Butler

Damn... Many years after its release I still consider Bonded by Blood the best album ever, and now the singer of that album has died.
Memories of Exodus; Paul Baloff in his pj's on a stage in Eindhoven, the "And there there were 350-bootleg" (Exodus live in Dynamo), The Reunion at Dynamo Open Air somewhere in the nineties.... And always there was that crazy maniac at the stage, banging his head off and pissing off posers, kickin asses when possible. Paul, you will be missed! Good luck to the band and the families, San Francisco has lost a most memorable person!!!

I only found out today about Paul passing away and i am deeply shocked by this and my feelings go out to Paul`s family and friends. Exodus were the first thrash band that i heard and Bonded By Blood was the first album that i heard also and it just blew me away but the Exodus set standards that other bands were to follow but i have not heard another band better them or sound like them because Paul`s singing and the Exodus guitar sound was total original. I just want to say wish the other guys from Exodus all the best also and thanks Paul & co for making my life better for listening to the music you guys made. Cheers!

Hey Bro,

I couldn't believe it when I saw the news. I feel like I have lost a brother.
I am proud to say I use to know Paul back in the old days in S.F.. Almost every weekend in the early 80's to the early 90's bands and friends would gather at places like the The Omni, The Stone, and tons of other bay area dives to play and watch killer bands. I miss those times and I will miss Paul. I haven't seen him for almost 10 years and the wierd thing about it is that they are playing in L.A. tonight which is where I currently live and I was going to see Paul and say hi. I will still go to the show and show my support for the rest of the band. I am sad to say we lost a another great metal icon!!! As Ozzy says, "I'll see you on the other side!!!"

When I first started listening to metal or if you may Thrash. Exodus was One of the first bands I listened too. The first cd I got was pleasures of the flesh. It still ranks as one of my favorite cds I own. When I heard that voice I knew this was a band I would love and still do love! To hear what happened just really sadden me. I mean even though I didn't know him personally, he was one the few front men I thought kicked ass! I got to see him live and I am damn proud of that because it was one the best concerts that I've been too. And in the mayhem of all the thrashing, I got to grab his hand when he was singing Toxic Waltz. You were the man of thrash Paul! I'll miss you and what you could have done! R.I.P. and like you said older than shit, heavier than time!

I was never into Exodus, but with out them my life would have been different. If Kirk Hammett never met Paul everything we know would not be here. I would not be playing my guitars today. I wouldnt be aspiring to someday have my band enter into the main stream world. I offer my sympithies to his family. He has done so much more than he'll ever know. Ive never even hears one Exodus song. Yet I still owe a debt of graditude to Paul. Some day the spot light will shine on me. None of it would have happened with out Paul Baloff. Though our religious stand points may differ, your family is in my prayers.

I have known Paul and Exodus since 97. I saw the Balboa show in 86, Fenders and Big Johns(without Paul)in 88,89. Here is one of my stroies. I was chill'in in front of the Eagles in Millwaukee(Metalfest) with Dave Curloss(Malevolent) and Jeremy(Infamy R.I.P) me and Dave had some blueberry blunts. We had just finished one and we were about to spark another and Paul walks up already edge removed. He goes "Hay whats up, are you going to spark that shit?". I say yeah. We burned it then he goes "You got any tickets?". I say yeah. He says "Go sell them and I will get you in. Then go buy a case of Heiniken." So I do this, and it was about 90 degrees out with 90% humindity. He comes up and goes "Fuck this lets go to the tour bus". So we go in there because it was the only place with AC. Inside was Steve and the other guys from Skinlab and Mitch from Naplam. We all partied hard of hours. Then we go to the v.i.p. enterance. Paul walks in sends one of the roadies back with his v.i.p. pass. I go in the the one of the biggest backstage rooms I have ever seen, and we all just went nutty the rest of the night with an asssortment of goodies. This was just one of the great nights I had with Paul and Exodus. He will be missed by all of us dearly and we all have lost the the best singer in all of Metal!
