I suppose it is a start. Most of our Aussieisms are shortenings of other things. We shorten long words and lengthen short ones. That's about it. And we also use people's names from ads or happenings after they have done something memorable. eg. If someone thinks of a good idea we say "Give that man a new." [from an ad] Same with Claytons. Everything that is pseudo or a fake or replica is now a Claytons. We seem to do that. In cricket this guy was getting in trouble for saying nasty things about a guy on the other team and it was picked up by the pitch microphone. Everyone heard it but then all of a sudden the cameraman owned up to it. Everyone knows it wasn't the camerman [Joe] but now if you want ot shift blame you say Cameraman Joe did it. At the moment this same cricketer is in trouble for an inhibited drug in his body and he says his mother gave it to him. She says she did. So now peole are saying that camerman Joe's mother gave it to him. lol. All very silly but those are the things that become running jokes and part of our language. I think nick names for everything are our main cultural thing. Noone at hubby's work is called by their real name. Except the women. They are. But not the men. Things get nick names and happenings get nick names.

The Dish is a good movie. There's another quaint one out called Cracker or Crackers. Kind of like the Castle. HAve you seen the Castle? Same mold. Looking for Alibrandi is also a good one and I hear Wog Boy is also good but I haven't seen it. Most of our movies are crap. We seem to be beginning to make decent ones about aspects of our culture.
The Castle is about a basic working class family and what life means to them, including their family. Crackers is about life at a dying suburban lawn bowls club and that culture that exists in these sorts of places. Alibrandi is about a girl coming to terms with her italian family and accepting them and herself. Wog Boy is about a greek kid and his life here, dealing with racism etc. Other than these cutlural movies, we don't make very good movies at all.
