Very interesting that your wife is from Slovakia. That's where my maternal great-grandparents immigrated from.
As far as her asking you to explain stuff. . .when we first married, I was pretty naive about most references to sex, drugs, etc., while my husband had led a more, er, colorful pre-marital existence. He was always having to explain the "real" meaning of various rock lyrics, "Saturday Night Live" references, etc. to me.
Also, bdm, you're older than I thought you were (this info gleaned from your remarks in re your age when the first space shuttle crashed); for some reason, I thought you were only in your 20s.
