I think I know how the writing of XF episodes works these days. CC tokes up, then passes the joint around to the rest of the guys. Then they all get the munchies and have to write an episode really quickly so that they can make a midnight run to Taco Bell.

Anyway, I did enjoy this episode. I just think that there were a few little things that made it seem so silly, like the adoption and like Spender having such easy access to Willam. Overall, the story was actually pretty coherent for a mytharc.

How cute was William's bunny ears hat!

Seriously though, it's as though somebody hit Scully with a really big stupid stick this season. It just makes me so angry! I love Scully so much and if somebody were simply watching this season alone (not that anyone is), they'd think she was an idiotic, sappy, pansy. Since we've started the Scully marathon I've been reminded of how I came to love Scully so much to begin with, and it just makes this current Scully look even more pathetic. I'm sorry if I'm sounding kind of bitter, but it just makes me sad that she doesn't even care what happens in her apartment or to her baby.

Even though I don't agree on Scully's course of action in giving the baby up for adoption, I don't find it completely out of character that she did. Like kande and someone else said, there of course would be a paper trail if she gave William up for adoption. I do, however, believe that as hard as it would be for Scully to give William up, she would. That's how much she loves him. We all believe that she can protect him better than unsuspecting adoptive parents, and that's what ruins it. But Scully is willing to cause herself indescribable pain if it means saving her child. THAT is the Scully I love. If giving William up actually WAS the best way to save William, than I'd believe it was in character for Scully. It's comparable to Mulder leaving Scully. WE all know that it wasn't the best thing to do, but Mulder was willing to go through the pain of leaving her because he believed it was the only way to save her and William.

All that being said, I did enjoy the return of Spender. I never guessed it was him. I guessed that the DNA was some sort of effect of the whatever the aliens did to him. I mean, the aliens had Mulder for so long, I figured they might have harvested his DNA or something along those lines. And at the end when Scully said something like "I bet you wished that bullet had just killed you in the first place." I immediately thought "KRYCEK!!" Then she mentioned getting shot in an office and I was so confused.

Anyway, I didn't hate it as much as it seems like I did from this post. And I'm surprised they didn't use that gleam of Mulder in Scully's eye to declare on all the commercials "The Return of David Duchovny!!!"
