Michael row the boat ashore is a reference to Moses in the Bullrushes story from the Bible. You know the one where Moses is left in the rushes to be found by the Pharoh's daughter who raises him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. I caught that reference right away.

As for the white Buffalo, I also caught that reference also. I think it means that he is the white buffalo calf and if he lives there is hope or something good is about to happen, if he dies something bad will happen. What I also noticed was that he couldn't make the mobile swing like he used to do. I also wonder if the parents or at least the father isn't in on the secret of William--why else would he carve a white buffalo?

I also wonder just what the extra paper was that they had to sign? Somehow I got the feeling that the mother was the one who was hesitant to bring a baby into the home while the father was eager to do so.
