Two buddies and I drove up from Fort Hill, Pa early Friday. We got there when they were still selling tickets and we were able to only buy two (no more money). However, soon after all of the fences got torn down and it was just free to everyone. When we first walked in, they management was trying to keep some walkways clear. So we walked up inside the first set of speaker towers and found a small spot to throw our sleeping bags down. It was the last place that close that was open. Pretty soon 'stuff' was getting passed around and we were feeling pretty good. We missed The Band's sound check but we caught The Allman Bros. and the Dead. By the time the sun set there were no longer any walkways just a sea of people forever. Around 2 or 3 in the morning I tried to find the bathrooms. It was close to impossible to navigate through all the people and to have any idea which way to go. I think I got about 50 yards from where I started when I saw this circle of people chanting and shouting so I made my way over to see what all the fuss was about. In the middle of the circle was a couple intensely getting it on. I didn't hang around to witness the culmination and as I was meandering I over heard someone say that the Hell's Angels were driving there bikes through the crowd up ahead. So I said to myself, I don't have to go that bad and turned around to try and find my friends again. After about an hour and many stops to share with folks, I actually stumbled upon my buddies. Both nights helicopters were swooping over the crowd. Man that was wild particularly in the state we were in. Saturday was such a kick with the rain storm and the mud. Our car was parked really close to the stage so during the worst of the storm we cruised over to our car and hung out there. After the rain we watched folks go sliding down a little hill in the mud. We left extremely late Saturday night to head south. When we got out to the main road an turned to head home, there were cars lining the road for miles with people still trying to get in.
