I also remember being on that cruise in the summer of 74. I was 17. It was an amazing chance to see Scandinavia and a little bit of Soviet Russia. I remember having Russian school children as guides and I was struck by how brainwashed they were - kept telling us how wonderful Russia was, even though we were ferried around in buses that looked pre-war!
The food on board was pretty much like school dinners and the sleeping arrangements were fairly primitive but the overall experience was great. I have a strong memory of the nightly discos and of dancing to a song called "Don't rock the boat" which seemed very topical!
