My dad, Richard Streng, was aboard the LST550 in both the European Theater and the South Pacific. I know he worked in the engine room, and slept right next to it as well, but don't know a lot more. Like a lot of WWII vets, he almost never talked about the war. I remember one story about someone bringing 3 monkeys aboard and there were orders to get them off the ship, two were found but they couldn't find the third one, several days later it was found, drowned in the coffee pot. Would like to connect with others who were aboard or their families.
