My Dad was a Gunners Mate 3rd class on LST-56, GM3 Robert Hanna, he was in the Navy from '43 - '46 and took part in D-Day. I never heard my Dad talk about the war, the only thing I can remember him saying was "eh we did what we had to do" and that was the extent of it, until his last few days. During thoes last few days I found out that not only was LST-56 involved in D-day but at Omaha Beach too boot, and after the invasion their ship was scheduled to be prepard to take part in the invasion of Japan, but the Japaneese surrendered prior to that mission. I found a web site HullNumber.com where you can find other crew members of LST-56, I submitted some picture my dad had from '44 of the ship and some of the crew, once they are accepted they will be posted. I submitted the pictures on behalf of my Dad who passed away in 2009, and to echo you comment God Bless the Greatest Generation!!
