My Dad served and always told us they were on the way to invade Japan when they dropped the bomb. They then turned around and came home. He also said they went through the Panama Canal. I can find no record of any of this and would be interested in any info. His name was Charles Gannon Murphy and was a Seaman Second Class. That's all I know as he passed in 1975.
