The June 4,1943 issue of Sampson News has a picture of one of the the miniature subs captured at Pearl 12-7-41. It was on tour as a part of the "Slap-a-Jap" bond drive.
The artilce says the sub would be at the station the following Monday and would go to Rochester the next day.
I believe this to be the origin of the Seneca Lake sub myth.
The lake was deep enough, but not wide enough for effective sub training (this information provided by one of he Air Force vets).
