I'll let you all know if I get a reply...

David Rosenfeld
Director of Athletic Communications
Loyola College in Maryland

Dear Mr. Rosenfeld:

I am a member of Loyola's Class of 1995, and had a quick question regarding the college's policies regarding the use of the men's basketball team's identity in NCAA officially licensed video games.

I received a copy of Sega Sports' NCAA Basketball 2K3 for the Xbox this Christmas and was somewhat dismayed to learn that almost every NCAA Division I men's basketball team was represented in the game, except for Loyola and a handful of others. In place of Loyola in the game is a fictional school named "Maryland College." "Maryland College" plays in the MAAC, has red and grey team colors, and has an odd, teardrop-shaped mascot.

My question is, as you would expect, why is Loyola not depicted in the game? It seems to me that being represented in a video game would be a great way to increase awareness of the school among potential students (and student-athletes as well).

I appreciate your thoughts on this issue. Thank you in advance for your response.
