About the "in the world but not OF the world" in regard to iron and the clay. But I'm not sure that's quite right. Because if the iron is the part of our "empire" or our nation that descends from the Roman Empire, that would be the republic, the law, the anglo-saxon influence. Perhaps the clay can be considered the other influences that formed our country - the Africans brought as slaves, the Asian immigrants, the Hispanics. Perhaps the iron-and-clay can be likened to the "melting pot" theory? You know the latest is not what WE were taught in school, that we all melt together into a similar substance, but that each group retains its own identity, or that it should.

And also, contradicting the "in the world but not OF the world" interpretation, would be the next part you said...yes, we are all understand the stone cut out of the mountain without hands to be the Kingdom of God in the latter days - thus refering to the church. So perhaps we are part of the stone, and therefore we are not the clay nor the iron?

I know...deep thoughts, yes? But that's what this board's supposed to be all about, right?

Okay, Kelly, Debbie, Erica - where ARE you ladies???
