Breaking away from the larger group, she finds a smaller window in one of the empty weyrs and gazes out at the grounds. The gold egg shimmered lightly in the sunlight; a beacon among the other eggs. Brynn sighed deeply, filled with a remarkable longing to be the one who held the young queen's head for the first time...gazed into her rainbow eyes...scratched her eye ridges. But the odds seemed to be against her.

She hadn't the steadiness of Avidail, nor the innocence of Jiania. She didn't have any relations to important people, like Auriga did, and she also was not at HAD like the boy had been. She wasn't as firey as Varda or as joyful as Ren. Perhaps she needed to change in order to be Impressed...Nien nudged her impatiently, reminding her that a dragon didn't Impress you for being someone else. She smiled and stroked the fire lizard. He was right, of course. You can't hide who you really are from a dragon.

Her gaze fell on the large green egg, the sunlight reflecting light aqua off the shell. She fervently reminded herself that if any dragon should happen to Impress her, it would be an honor. Especially if it happened to be the large green...or even the Queen...she played on her hopes, imagining herself as a dragonrider, soaring above the clouds, and most importantly, away from the kitchens and her father...

The thought of her father made her serene smile into a scowl and Nien chirped with surprise, for he had never seen her do anything but smile in the short time they'd been together. She patted him reassuringly and tried to forget about her father. She switched her focus back to the shining clutch on the sands, and let her mind drift free...
