.:: He had been silent, though not of his own accord. It seemed that, for one reason or another, the girl known as Claire had felt the need to dive in ahead of his retort, thus quelching out his gathering of wits and comebacks. Truthfully, he was angered, if not patronised, by the action, and it probably showed as alabaster-hued features set into a stoicy alignment and wintry azure eyes sought out the back of Claire's head to glare at. A Malfoy needed naught defense, and it was more a show of hurt pride and missed opportunity than anything; a wrath raged beneath the misleading airs of aristocracy - he had been on edge for so long, after all. Was it not inevitable to snap? Could he be able of finally crumbling?

No.

When it seemed that there was a break in the current of words, he pounced upon the opportunity, clearing the expanse of pale flesh that was his throat, and keeping his gaze on his former, fellow Slytherin. "Are you quite finished?" he drawled, directing it specifically to Claire, and it seemed he was fighing the urge to grind his pearly whites together as he issued the query. "And to think, you were a Slytherin." This was more of an afterthought to himself, eyes rolling ceilingward in exasperation, before they locked upon the unpredictability that was Julian, once more.

One would probably expect for him to execute the bout of insults once more, but that didn't occur initially. It didn't occur at all, in fact. The piercing ice of his gaze merely leveled upon Julian, and slowly, almost psychotically, a smirk flecked his labrums. It seemed down-right wrong to smile after such exchanges, much less to smirk, but then again, he, himself, was wrong. He was the embodiment of wrong. However, that could be easily played off, especially with the melodious retort he had lined up, deceiving in all his exquisite facades.

"...But nothing ever happens, no harm is done. We may as well go patiently on with our life, And look elsewhere than to stars and moon and sun, For the shocks and changes we need to keep us sane."

It was an exerpt from another Frost poem, and his smirk was nearly a mad grin at this point, as if he had obtained some sort of life secret that was coveted by all organisms. "You credit me too little, Julian." It seemed, all hostility had drained from him, shoulders laxed, breathing steady, but still, he seemed to be poised for whatever might be next, angling his chin up in futile pride that he couldn't quite shake.

We are the same. That's the problem. A rare breed, we are. ::.
