The same sex issue doesn't apply with dogs and cats. The only issue you have to worry about is the prey drive in the pup you choose. If you buy a puppy, make sure you do a lot more research to find a good breeder. Find out if the parents have a high prey drive or if they get along well with other animals such as cats. This site will get you started on the right track: http://www.geocities.com/Petsburgh/Fair/1901/chart.html

If you get an adult from a rescue group, it will already be socialized, kennel trained, housebroken, have all of it's shots, be spayed/neutered, possibly obediance trained and have the adult temperament that it will have for the rest of it's life. I rescue Pits and have 6 in my house who all got along with cats. They don't necissarily get along with each other, but they get along with the cats, go figure. A rescue will know if the dog you want will get along with cats, especially if they stay in a foster home with them. If a pup is absolutely what you have to have, consider finding a pup in rescue that needs a home that won't get one if you buy from a breeder. Keep scrolling down on this message board, there are pups needing homes here too. Stear clear of these losers posting pups for sale on here, trust me you don't want what they have.
