Subject: FBI Probes Teens Arrest
LOS ANGELES (July 10) - As public outrage mounts, various law enforcement agencies have opened investigations into the arrest of a teenager who was videotaped being slammed onto a police car and punched in the face while he was handcuffed.
Dozens of angry protesters descended on Inglewood City Hall on Tuesday, demanding an end to police brutality and the ouster of Officer Jeremy Morse. Inglewood Mayor Roosevelt Dorn responded by saying that the officer should be fired and charged with assault.
''I will not under any circumstances tolerate the type of conduct I observed in the videotape,'' Dorn told a packed City Hall news conference. ''In my opinion the district attorney's office should act.''
Meanwhile, lawyers for 16-year-old Donovan Jackson and his father plan to announce their intent to file a lawsuit Wednesday at the federal courthouse in downtown Los Angeles.
Rep. Maxine Waters sent a letter to Attorney General John Ashcroft demanding an investigation of the altercation, and charged that the white officer's treatment of the black teen was racially motivated.
The FBI said it has opened a civil rights investigation. The Inglewood Police Department, the Los Angeles County sheriff and district attorney also are investigating.
Morse, a three-year veteran who was put on leave Monday with pay, could not be reached for comment. Phone messages left for the president of the Inglewood Police Officers Association were not immediately returned.
The incident happened during a traffic stop Saturday afternoon just east of Los Angeles International Airport.
A tourist's videotape showed Morse hoisting Jackson to his feet, throwing his body onto a car, then striking him in the face with a closed fist. Two other officers appear to intervene, with at least one trying to pull away the first officer's arm.
Police and sheriff's officials said the teen lunged at deputies and was combative, while the boy's father, the driver of the car that was stopped, said his son cooperated and Morse attacked him unprovoked. The family's lawyer, Joe Hopkins, said the teen is developmentally disabled with no arrest record.
The teen was booked for investigation of assault on a peace officer; his father was cited for driving with a suspended license.
The video was recorded by a man who was staying at a motel across the street.
Another person who says he was victimized by Morse has also come forward.
Neilson Williams, 32, claims he was handcuffed and beaten by Morse and other officers June 23. He says he lapsed into a coma and was hospitalized for several days.
Williams alleges the officers gave no explanation for stopping him. He said he has filed a formal complaint with Inglewood police.
Sgt. Ron Ragan said the complaint is confidential and an investigation was being conducted. A police department news release said Williams was belligerent and resisted arrest.

Though something about this incident doesn't ring true, it's the guy videotaping. Inglewood is a shit hole and I can't for the life of me believe this person just happened to be taking vacation pics from a motel balcony in a slum area at that exact time. To convenient and reeks of set up!!...jmo, as always

The man was staying at the hotel when he noticed the commotion outside from his window. He grabbed his video camera and ran to the scene, along with other bystanders. When he noticed that the police had seen him videotaping, he gave his tape to a friend to hold. Later, several police officers came to his hotel room to question witnesses, but they hadn't yet figured out that he was the one videotaping the incident. Got that info from CNN.com. Matters not to me how the incident got taped or who taped it. A kid got smashed into a squad car for no reason. But I can understand how the officer might have felt threatened, seeing as the kid was handcuffed and there were about five or six other cops around. I would have been scared of that child too.

First off I grew up in hell hole LA and had some real bad run ins with THAT police dept. Believe this or not the original Greenpeace was a group of people demonstrating against LA police brutality. I have seen how they operate and not just against minorities either, back in the '60s there was a riot up in Hollywood involving the cops against EVERYONE, lots and lots of white kids were clubbed, pepper sprayed and brutilized by these finks. As for the motto thing, it was kind of a joke. I had some problems with a hideous hispanic guy threatening me, I called a friend of mine on the PHX police dept and told him this had nothing to do with bigotry against hispanics, his response was what I wrote above. It was the police mindset I was referring to, which like Lafaux said, the brotherhood of them against anyone that doesn't believe their shit doesn't stink and they are Gods and IMO LA cops are the absolute worse.

The slam was wrong. The punch was wrong if the kid did not grab the cops jewels as is being reported (the news). Let say the cop was trying to get his jewles free. He will probaly loose his job and could go to Jail just for the slam.
Just wonder how did the cop get the slash on his head? Any clues.
As for the video taper he has warrants out for his arrest in Northern CA. Got that from the news. From what they reported Assualt and Battery. So is he guilty to.
As for that Blue code of Silence it needs to go away.

The problem I have with this is the politicians shooting off their mouths with such stuff as "no justice, no peace" it's like they're trying to incite riot, every riot that has happened in LA has been fueled by the same thing, the worst part, after the smoke clears it's the decent people of which ever community that's been trashed that suffers the most. Violence begets violence. One of the ugliest acts to occur in our society (outside of dirty cops beating a defenseless person in their custody) is a riot. Talk about "no justice"! But, we have to be able to trust our officials, and juries to do the right thing; otherwise, it leads to the worst type of frustration. It just seems to me that LA is a hot bed of unrest ALL the time, as with most things you can only judge others by yourself and your own experiences and I can honestly say to this day, this old white lady still carries a grudge against the cops and I'm still skittish of them because of the goons in LA. I could tell you stories that would make your hair curl (if it's not already) However I do think after the last riots things have changed and the proof of that is the subject of this topic, before King, nobody in authority would have given a rats patoot about the incident and probably would have said "oh that's to bad, but I don't see nothin wrong with popping a smartass punk" I'd also bet heavy $$ if OJ had been found guilty there would have been another riot, seems to me LA loves their riots evey bit as much as they hate their police dept....jmo as always,

Nobody reacted to the killings of black Americans in the South until, some white boys from the North became victims. It was also because TV again brought police brutality to the forefront that change came about, but people also fooled themselves into believing that such things only occurred in the South, so it was allowed to fester in other communities, large and small.
About the O.J. verdit. Your money would probably be safe because most black Americans saw O.J. as another victim of the legal system. He represented so many who have been railroaded because they don't have the money to get the best legal help available.

Huh? Is this connection/representation being made solely on the basis of the color of his skin? He got off because he had the best legal help his money could buy. He was guilty as sin and yet the inept LA police couldn't manage to garner evidence properly in order for Marcia to get a conviction (plus she didn't do her homework either). Railroaded? Hardly.

Er... Yes! You find it outrageous? Does it offend you? Okay, maybe you don't want to hear about those who have been oppressed "connecting" with Heroes who look like them, or people deemed to be victims, but it's true.

I know why O.J. got off! I think I stated that it was because he had the best legal team money could buy. If the inept LA cops weren't so intent on taking the legal system into their own hands, they would not have given O.J's legal team the ammunition that they had to free him.
Guilty as sin? No! Not in this country, not until the jury comes back with a verdit.
Railroaded? No, but I didn't say that he was. What I said was that those who had been railroaded looked to see how the system would work for somebody who did have the money to provide himself with the best legal team.

I have to believe things will get better for all in the future, I look at it this way 100 years ago I and my children (1/2 native Americans) would have been ostracized and called vile names.
