Subject: Chapter 20: 1974-1976: History of the United States of America

*Matthew 19:12 “For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.” -- Jesus said this. In the Gospels. The Bible.
Ignore this quote, all along? Seriously. He who is honest, gets it. [He who grows up, as all people do on a normal world, knows this is so. ….Sex, the physical act, does allow the human race to continue on here upon this Earth; but other then that, it is not a true reality. Sexual type, if above sex, is fact, in that it is merely an attitude as to how one connects with his other half. As we are all One literally, or it would not be true, would it. Ego is false. Self excitement is ego. Be rid of ego first, does not feel egos lust, does not feel to prefer one person over another due to ego excitement. To prefer being with one person over another is not ethical.] As we know “everyone is neurotic“ is not either, normal.

Chapter 20: 1974 - 1976 History of the United States of America

Well, it seems the Arab-Israeli War had the United States in the dog house with the Arab community. The Arab community used oil to get back at any country that sided with Israel during the 1973 Arab-Israeli War/ Yom Kipper war. Arab members of OPEC, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, placed an oil embargo upon the United States; banning oil shipments to the U.S. and reducing production of oil. Thus, a real and true supply problem occurred. Worse, they attached the end to this embargo will be Israel’s acceptance that they must pull out of the Golan Heights and part of the Sinai. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger under Nixon, negotiated a partial withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Sinai, ending this embargo/supply issue by March 1974.
Hey, I was there, is anyone who recollects that during this embargo, the U.S. government actually placed rationing for gasoline. A person could get gas only on certain days; and even then, you had to wait in very long lines at the gas pumps. It was miserable, [as I had just turned 16, and had only recently received my drivers license.] Fortunately, this new normal, I felt was my bad luck, went away. [I do recollect 58 cents a gallon.]

Speaking of the Arab-Israeli War, and Israel’s insistence not to pull out of the Sinai, and of course Jordan‘s West Bank. And all that. Great Britain, right after WW1 had been given this territory, we now call Jordan, Palestine/Israel, by the League of Nations. …So it was, by 1949, Great Britain was giving back India, [due to Mahatma Gandhi’s peaceful movement, Martin Luther King Jr. will later emulate]; meanwhile, WW11 had discovered the massacre of the Jewish people in Europe, the death concentration camps; so the U.S. and Great Britain helped vote through the idea of giving Palestine back to the Jews, [who were already coming to Palestine], and gave Transjordan to the King. Palestine is after all, Ancient Judea, home of the Jewish people, -- who were run out of Judea 200 years after Jesus had been born. Pro Western was Jordon, until the 1967 Arab War upon Israel.
1970, the Jewish State of Israel has this little bit more land protecting them, the Sinai, West Bank of Jordan, the Golan Heights. They were straight up attacked, after all.
And, the Fedayeen guerrillas, who were Palestinian refugees, the Palestine Liberation Army, [PLO], had base camps within Jordan. 17,000 Iraqi troops, siding with the Fedayeen, were also encamped in Jordan.
If King Hussein removed these groups, he would have been anti Pro Arab solidarity. The King however, did attempt to come up with a peaceful solution to the Israeli issue, and the Fedayeen resented this. The King was a moderate, with rebels stationed in his own country. Nixon, Kissinger, were wanting to intervene, if invited, in either Lebanon or Jordan. Then there was an assassination attempt, and the Kings forces fought the Fedayeen, with the threat that Iraqi forces will help the Fedayeen. …The Fedayeen began hi jacking planes and holding hostages. Ultimately, President Nixon ordered the Sixth Fleet aircraft out, and then two more destroyers. The Fedayeen destroyed all 4 airplanes, and were threatening to murder the hostages.* …By now Civil War had broken out in Jordan. “The Black September Crisis”. Carriers were off the Israeli coast. The Soviet Union stayed on the sidelines. If we allow this sort of blackmail; Moderate Kings should know we have his back. The rumor had it that there is about to be a U.S. invasion into Jordan. Didn’t occur actually, but the Iraqi’s stayed out of the fight, and the Fedayeen lost to the King of Jordan’s forces. But not before the Syrians attacked Jordan also, to help. The Soviets said they didn’t know, and then hedged on that; as this era had a country either backed by the U.S., or the Soviet Union. …And then the Soviets and the U.S. had another Cuban missile dilemma, a crisis handled behind the scenes entirely, diplomatically, 1971.

1972, and the World Summer Olympics were being held in Munich, West Germany. A Palestinian group called the Black September held the Israeli Olympic team hostage and ultimately murdered Israel’s Olympic team members. They were demanding the release of 234 prisoners from Israeli jails. 11 Israeli athletes, coaches and a West German police officer were killed; 5 to 8 members of the Black September were killed, during a failed rescue attempt.

When vice president Agnew resigned in 1973, as the 25th Amendment to the Constitution stipulated, this vacancy should then go to the leader Of the House of Representatives; the Republican Minority leader in the House, was Gerald R. Ford, who had been in Congress now, for 25 years. So President Nixon nominated him as should, Congress passed; and Mr. Ford became Vice-President. When President Nixon resigned, Mr. Ford became the very first president the citizens did not vote for. He became president officially in August of 1974.

1974, the Democrats already had a majority in Congress; and now this majority is big, so big, the Democrats have the voting power in Congress to override the presidents vetoes.

President Ford pardons Mr. Nixon. Ford’s press secretary quits in protest. A great many people are upset over this pardon. As he became the great veto President; vetoing 66 measures. Of the 48 regular vetoes, 12 were overridden. He attempted to deregulate gas, and to be rid of gas price controls. But Congress would not allow.

Yes, people were infuriated that Mr. Nixon was simply pardoned, -- as Gerald Ford, did so, 1. To make the whole affair go away, 2. To protect the presidency. 3. Mr. Nixon was his friend, he knew him, so he felt it was right. And, it wasn’t truly any deeper then that.
However, this whole Watergate debacle had been simply one man’s actions. The system that encouraged and created this one man’s attitudes in the first place, -- the view that the president is a Little Lord who will break the law, as if a non victim crime: This system is still, firmly in place. But they now had committees in Congress to investigate the corrupt actions by government, is this: money in politics, the illegal donations in return for promises, were dime a dozen. Except on a minor level, with minor fines, all these corporations, donors, were not acknowledged as if they did what they did. As floor debates in Congress were shown on TV, the Republican leaders in the House of Representatives assured Nixon that if he resigned, he will not be prosecuted. [The illegal bombing in Cambodia, …the war went away, so the whole matter was swept away.] In all, no one implicated in the Watergate scandal went to jail, but a few, who had short jail terms.

It came out in John Mitchell and Maurice Stan’s trial for obstruction of justice in the Securities and Exchange Commission: Robert Vesco, a Nixon contributor, said that he went hunting for geese in Texas with Maurice Stans. Well, Vesco wanted to be chairman of the SEC. If he gets this job,.. he would cut out a bad paragraph in the SEC charges that said Vesco made a secret donation of $200,000, …is what he promised.
While corporations now, are giving donations to both political parties; therefore, it does not matter who won; the politicians are bought. …1971, the Secretary of Agriculture said we are not going to increase price supports to milk producers. Then the Associated Milk Producers gave money to Nixon’s campaign, and the milk producers received their price support increase.
It is said, during the big Oil Embargo, that oil company economists discussed holding back production of oil to keep the prices up, unnecessarily. Why, you’d think oil companies would have no need for the economist position. ….Or, Corporations that break anti Trust laws, are allowed to do so.

The Senate set up the Church Committee to clean up government. This committee mostly commented on the CIA and FBI’s abuses. They reported how the CIA purposely destabilized the Chilean government, to be rid of their president Salvadore Allende, who was a “Marxist”, they said. …The CIA attempted LSD experiments, and a CIA man who was given LSD without his knowledge, jumped to this death. …For years, the FBI had been attempting to hurt left wing groups. The FBI forged letters, burgled, opened mail illegally, and set Black Panther leader Fred Hampton up for a murder he did not commit.
However, the Church Committee allowed the CIA to omit any findings, they did not like. The Pike Committee, set up by the House of Representatives, did report findings; but they did not publish them.

A report concerning the Pike Committee’s findings were leaked to Daniel Shore reporter from the CBS news. CBS suspended Daniel Shore, because this report wasn’t going to be reported.* As the Committees are all run by money people who appease. [Never is there free speech, if government is appeased/advertisers, rule the News, …is not real news.] [If this report is not to be made public, is, why?]

Committees created to make the Citizens of this nation believe they were ridding of the abuses in our system, was not actually occurring not even a little bit. What the CIA or FBI did, why, we know they are stupid already. Just how stupid, …when government begins to lie to make people look bad, or to cover up, Democracy will be lost. No true free speech, has no peoples paper; and the press cannot have outside influences telling them what is right or wrong..

1974, after President Ford assumed office, he held the optimistic attitude that South Vietnam will be able to hold onto their territory without U.S. military assistance. He even wished to attempt to allocate more funds for the South Vietnamese military. Although, by 1975, the jig was up, and South Vietnam was overtaken by the North.

1975, the Vietnam War finally, over completely, and Secretary of State Kissinger was invited to be a commencement speaker at the University of Michigan. Petitions were created in opposition to this invitation of a guy who they saw, was partly responsible for the war itself. A counter commencement program was planned, and Mr. Kissinger withdrew as commencement speaker. However, the end of the protest era, was mostly here now.

The Young Americans for Freedom, the youth arm of the conservative movement, was founded in September 1960. As the National Review might have been a reigning leader, it is important to note, Buckley was one of several main voices, attempting to change the economic conversation. Already they had truly succeeded; no more economic advance will occur again, up to this writing. “1969, when Kevin Phillips wrote his brilliant study, The Emerging Republican Majority.”[3]

Nelson Rockefeller was Mr. Ford’s vice president. A moderate Republican, he promoted road, highway expansion, increase of Medicaid, and low income housing, in New York state when he was governor. He called bonds for the needy, “Moral Obligation Bonds”. He felt drug abusers should be placed in treatment centers instead of jails. Congress passed this; but people were choosing short term prison sentences verses 3 years in treatment centers. So they made it mandatory for treatment. Then by 1973, they passed very tough laws upon drug pushers.
…Regarding the Attica Prison Riot, when some prisoners were killed by the national guard, “"I was trying to do the best I could to save the hostages, save the prisoners, restore order, and preserve our system without undertaking actions which could set a precedent which would go across this country like wildfire," Rockefeller later said.” [wikipedia]

Verses Barry Goldwater, arch conservative leader, in the Republican Party. His crusades were against the Soviet Union, a Welfare State, [lying about the intent of the poor, is why they can be criminally neglected?], and labor unions. Goldwater’s idea is, to see, as the National Review promoted in every way, with hey we don’t truly know how the economy works, and it is assumed how the economy works is mere opinion,, as no one has stated facts plainly; is why how the economy works, is replaced with rich man wants to believe.
How the economy works is not opinion of course. If you recall, Mr. Goldwater lost the presidential election [1964] due to his idea that we can use the atomic bomb if need be. [Anyone who will use it, is likely a sociopath for real; or will be one, if he does use, especially first.]

Common sense in integrity knows you cannot make it into Heaven if you are for allowing the poor to go die, if they do not succeed. The Conservative Right is all about God, but did and does not actively believe in God in practice, to see No safety net for the poor is right. This absolute neglect was not even Mr. Nixon’s call; it was an evolution of rhetoric taking hold by 1975.
Believe Government’s responsibility is to promote and progress the eternal career of all people, certainly has everyone safe, is also belief in God. But this Conservative movement was truly ignorant to this fact. In our world that pretends fact is opinion, was the order of the day. …The Ronald Reagan Republicans are now seeing, after Mr. Ford, no duty to God, has no duty to make certain all citizens are okay. [Leave it to charity, -- who
won’t help anyone out of homelessness. Criminal neglect says you are homeless is why we won’t help you; charity allows you stay in a shelter for only a few months. This is so cruel, that people are treated to die a physical death, if you want out of homelessness. Sociopath believing, to criminally neglect this way. Not a sociopath will self correct to be educated.]

The rhetoric now: Stop inflation! High interest rates were the true main cause of most this inflation. The Conservative movement beginning 1960, ignored as if it will go away, didn’t, and is now rhetoric the Democrats will use as well. ….The moment Ford was inaugurated as President, he began a Whip Inflation Now! Campaign. WIN buttons were passed around, [stop inflation now would be SIN; so, the term stop inflation now could not work here very well]. Mr. Ford preached that consumers should not get loans they cannot afford, to curtail spending, freewill style; and, to save money, have a savings account please everyone. And inflationary trends will go away. This of course cannot work, thus it did not work. [We do know interest rates were higher, then higher in hopes that people will cease seeking loans. As loan requirements are lessened, if people are not trying to purchase a house, due to affordability problems.] If people save, they will afford. People don’t have extra money to save. So. Problem here.
…….The economy was in a recession; the unemployment rate was between 7 and 8% The interest rates: 1.75% in 1947; 3.25% in 1953; 1970 had 7.50%; 10% in 1973; is no wonder Mr. Nixon saw inflationary trends. By 1974, interest rates were at an all time high, 11.50%; is no wonder President Ford witnessed inflationary trends. [How can inflation be going on like this? When supply issues mostly, are not occurring. Stagflation they were calling this weird phenomena.] The Fed finally began lowering the rates while Ford held office, -- between 7 and 8% , which isn’t low either. The interest rates were in the 6 to 7% range during Carter’s administration; and then, began the big rise again 1978.

Interest rates were hellish rates, that did in all fact lower the ability to get a loan; as these rates became worse, much worsened, if the greedy can get away with it, as during the 19th Century‘s, unregulated “wild west” economy, did help prevent a sound middle class from ever taking hold until 1940. Great Depressions never let the greedy raise interest rates without an immediate bad reaction.

Back in the Saddle again, back when real men were men. A small middle class existed only. Back when. By 1979, interest rates were at 13%, then 15.25%. 1980, interest rates were at 19%, then 20%, at its highest. Loans for housing is seriously pounding down on rents, by mid 1980’s, profoundly, due to these interest rates, that did not apparently, stop people from attaining a housing loan. A house with a 300 dollar a month loan is now 600 dollars, was actually sealing the end of economic well being up to this date. …President Ford moved into the Whitehouse during a recession; the Fed lowered interest rates. As wages did not rise with inflationary trends; thus, everyone is making lower wages now, in consequence of this inflation.

The Census Bureau reported 1975, that the number of U.S. citizens legally in poverty, grew by ten percent.

“In January 1975, Ford proposed a 1 year tax reduction of $16 billion to stimulate economic growth, along with spending cuts to avoid inflation.” said Wikipedia online encyclopedia. Big deficits they squandered will create inflation, is not true. Will create high interest rates, or something?, is this: no they won‘t, to be remotely ethical. You are not either going to recoup some sort of profit, [because government policy did the wrong thing in the first place, -- low wages], by making it more expensive to survive. Is the opposite of a good economy. Is the USA responsible for telling small countries, who have barely no middle class, that they must raise interest rates specifically to pay them? Will make that nations money ridiculously worthless against the dollar especially? . A deficit exists at all only proves slave wages are allowed. No country has to worry about another countries bossiness, if they pay living wages, is their minimum wage. .…Yes but New York City goes bankrupt! Going to need help from the federal government for this one. But Mr. Ford flatly refused. This is fine, but New York City still went bankrupt, and isn‘t its own country to get out of this mess with out the national government‘s help. So Mr. Ford changed his mind, as Congress also approved a loan to New York City.

David Rockefeller, an official of Chase Manhattan Bank, and Zbigniew Brzezinski, a Columbia University professor, and a consultant to the State Department, created a group of very wealthy Corporate people to organize in hopes of solving problems, and getting everyone on the same page internationally. Several large new organizations joined as well.

Other then the economy, President Ford promoted vaccines to combat a Swine Flu outburst. …Issuing Presidential Proclamation no. 4383 in 1975, President Ford was for the Women’s Equal Rights Amendment, as Congress will pass, but will never receive enough states to vote for and pass it; thus the Amendment never came into being. August 26, 1975, Mr. Ford, created Women’s Equality Day. ….Ford was criticized by his own party when his wife Betty came out glad hearted on the 60 Minutes show, CBS, for the passing of the Supreme Court Case, Roe vs. Wade.

The Education for all Handicapped Children Act, 1975, created Special Education for all handicapped children.

Internationally, President Ford continued on with easing the tensions in the “Cold War” Détente. Ford visited China also. Relations with both China and the Soviet Union were improving. 1975, President Ford, along with the Soviet Union, Premier Brezhnev, created the Helsinki Watch, a independent non governmental organization, to monitor compliance. Later to become the Human Rights Watch. “35 nations signed a pact in 1975 Helsinki conference, that recognized the borders of all states in Europe.” [oxford.com]

Mr. Ford attended the inaugural meeting of the Group of Seven. The G7 allied members, -- most powerful nations coming together to discuss economic issues. Canada became a member 1975.

The Cyprus debate turned into the Turkish Cyprus invasion. When the Turkish did this, the United States became unhappy. Congress overwhelmingly voted to throw Turkey out of NATO, and to place sanctions upon them. We need the Eastern Front protected with Turkey as an ally. So President Ford vetoed this bill and another. Finally, relations improved by 1978.

Kissinger said, “I wish to express my profound disappointment over Israel's attitude in the course of the negotiations ... Failure of the negotiation will have a far reaching impact on the region and on our relations. I have given instructions for a reassessment of United States policy in the region, including our relations with Israel, with the aim of ensuring that overall American interests ... are protected. You will be notified of our decision.” [Wikipedia] A peace agreement between Israel and the Arab community, was not happening. President Ford sent Henry Kissinger to Israel during and after the Oil Crisis; and Mr. Ford didn’t feel the Israeli’s were negotiating with Egypt as they should indeed do.
A period of “Reassessment” came about. In 1975, the U.S. refused to approve any more arms agreements with Israel, and, is considering canceling aid allocated for Israel. In May however, a very upset American Jewish community promoted 76 senators to write a letter urging President Ford to be “responsive” to Israel’s needs and concerns. But after bargaining, and not giving up, Kissinger’s shuttle diplomacy, [is when the term came about], the Sinai Interim Agreement was signed, and aid was given to Israel. That President Ford did disagree with Israel, in an era where, if you disagree with Israel at all, you are then anti Semitic: Disagree with a friend who is honest anyway, is a need, when it is, should not bother Israel. [As Arab Israeli’s equal rights is expected.]

“Ford set back efforts for Middle East peace by vetoing the first UN Security Council resolution that called for the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from Arab lands and the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside Israel in return for strict security guarantees for Israel.” [Common Dreams; building a progressive world website]

President Ford continued Nixon’s policies to give money to regimes, especially in South America, who are best for American [business] interests; siding with dictators over any man for the people, -- will then be seen as communist. “In Africa, Ford purchased millions of dollars worth of chrome from the white minority regime in Rhodesia in violation of the mandatory UN embargo. He allied with both the Mobutu dictatorship of Zaire and the apartheid regime in South Africa to arm rebel groups against the internationally recognized government of Angola. This support only ended when Congress voted to block U.S. military involvement in the Angolan civil war. Ford also stifled international efforts to impose sanctions on South Africa’s apartheid government despite its illegal occupation of Namibia and the unprecedented wave of repression following student protests in Soweto in June 1976.” [Common Dream Website] There are more stories.

Along with Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, the accords to end the war in Vietnam did include that both North and South Vietnam are to hold elections. As we know North Vietnam overtook South Vietnam instead. Operation Frequent Wind was instigated April 29 to 30th day of 1975. 1,373 U.S. citizens and 5,595 Vietnamese and other nationals were evacuated from the South Vietnamese capital of Saigon. Air America helicopters took the evacuees to U.S. Navy ships off shore, directly before Saigon fell to the North.
Some helicopters, it is said, had no where to land, so they had to deliberately crash land into the sea, near the ships, to be bailed out. The Indochina Migration and Refugee Assistance Act of 1975 allowed for many Indochinese refugees to come to the United States to live.
“Seven laws prohibited the use of the armed forces in Vietnam, and Ford went before a joint session of Congress to urge their repeal. After Congress deadlocked and did nothing, Ford ordered the evacuations anyway. He asked Congress to allocate almost half a billion dollars to settle 140,000 refugees from Indochina in the United States—one of his few legislative successes.” [Oxford.com]

After May of 1975, North Vietnam had taken over the South and the Khmer Rouge group overtook Cambodia. The America merchant ship called the Mayaguez was seized by the Cambodians in international waters. President Ford ordered the Marines out to rescue the crew. Unfortunately, the Marines landed on the wrong island, and their helicopters were shot down. 41 U.S. Servicemen were killed; 50 were wounded. 60 Khmer Rouge soldiers were killed. [Servicemen who died, were the last to be added to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington D.C.] The operation still achieved its goals, and the U.S. Citizens heard this is so.
The Mayaguez incident again. The Cambodians who captured the crew of the Mayaguez, it is said, were polite and accommodating. President Ford sent a message, giving the Cambodian government 36 hours to hand the crew over. Upon the 37th hour, although it was found that the message was not delivered, but returned, Ford ordered military actions. The crew had left Tank Island; but the U.S. soldiers attacked Tank Island anyway. Yes, many soldiers died, in this fight; however the crew was fine and comfortable, elsewhere, waiting for release. None of this crew were hurt. So. Big success. The United States had a big success to tell the American people, -- after the loss of the entire war.
1973, the War Power Act, was passed in Congress, demanding that Congress approve any military action. Mr. Ford phoned a few Congressmen to let them know. A few Congressmen complained, including Senator McGovern; otherwise, the whole issue simply went away.

“Let no nation read the events in Indochina as the failure of the American will.” This is what 56 Congressmen’s statement said, one week before the Mayaguez incident.

In Korea, the North considers that now, the United States may leave the South. In a village in the DMZ zone between the North and South, called Panmunjom, came the “axe murder incident”. August of 1976, while the Non-Aligned Nations in Columbo, Sri Lanka met, where Kim Jong-il, the son of North Korea’s leader, gave an example of American aggression in the area, in which he felt is why the U.S. must leave South Korea: North Korean forces meanwhile, killed 2 U.S. officers and injured south Korean guards who were trimming a tree in Panmunjom’s Joint Security Area. The United States responded with a large number of ground forces, and the air force was deployed. The North Korean government backed down, and apologized.

While the era of protest was at an end, and Ford’s presidency itself had mediocre controversies, (thus the “crazies” should be gone), he survived two assassination attempts! Once, while in Sacramento, California in September of 1975, Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme, who had been a follower of Charles Manson, [serial killer who had followers], pointed a handgun at President Ford; but as she pulled the trigger, Larry Buendorf, a Secret Service Agent, grabbed the gun out of her hand. They later found that the gun would not have fired however.
The second attempt on Mr. Ford’s life, 17 days later, as he left the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, Sara Jane Moore also points a gun at him. Former Marine Oliver Sipple grabbed her gun as it fired; the bullet struck a wall above President Ford’s head.

Liberal Chief Justice William O. Douglas retired; thus, 1975, President Ford appointed John Paul Stevens to replace him. [Ford had led efforts to have Mr. Douglas impeached.]
As a Conservative, Mr. Stevens is, although he doesn’t necessarily make Conservatives happy. Where ever facts lead, is the Supreme Court’s job, has therefore no right to break the golden rule is what keeps democracy safe.

In 1974, Streaking came into fashion. Run naked across the stage, football field, wherever it wouldn’t be very welcome. It was for fun. Every high school and college had streaking incidents. The Johnny Carson show, along with others, dealt with streakers. In an era that now showcased mood rings, pet rocks, and leisure suits. When it was cool to go to the disco tech, to find someone to have sex with upon the first meeting, is the new normal. As the economy encroached upon paychecks in a way that hadn’t occurred since before 1938. It was however, an era tired of concentrating on important matters; so the truth was, what was concentrated on, was me, myself, and I; pretentious ways, that demand you are not doing well, if you are not out on a date, on a Saturday night. Drugs, sex, and rock n roll. Your job equals your self worth, because self esteem was self hatred is better, instead of honoring everyone equally. ---”I’m Okay You’re Okay” book title; self help era is in full swing, on the other hand.

Send your child to school. Your preteens on up leave people out because they are better.
Is exactly how the Judgmental Sisters, [you hear of, in the following chapter], became this way. …Go to college so that you will make good money. At this hour, end of the era, yet still, you are allowed a job you can sure do well without a college degree. Isn’t truly realized however, that snobs are ending this era, because: I had to go to college; so you do. Was your choices; you should be treated fairly; but you do not have the right to tell everyone who did not go to college that they will not be allowed professions they are qualified, most capable of doing. As colleges only accept people who memorize well; or rather rote memorizing. Therefore, leaves people out of the hope for a better income, is not ethical. Although they did not at the time know what they do, either.

College is unaffordable entirely. Again, unethical. “Tuition” for school is not ethical.

School reform, collegiate level, will have you attending for what you actually need to take; not to retake classes already taken through out high school. As it is not legal to force people to attend school, then bore them silly. {This book is a school reform book.}

1976 presidential elections, and Republican hopefuls came out, as if there wasn’t even a Republican already in office. Ronald Reagan, ex actor, then ex governor of California ran against Mr. Ford, and won some primaries. Ultra conservative, Mr. Reagan criticized the President for how he should have done more to save South Vietnam, for signing the Helsinki Accords, [Human Rights Watch], and for negotiating to give the Panama Canal back to the country of Panama. Weak on communism is Mr. Ford, said Mr. Reagan, for whom was a descendent of Barry Goldwater. Reagan had delegates, so he demanded Ford drop Rockefeller from the vice presidential ticket, for someone ultra conservative. President Ford did so, placing Bob Dole, Senator from Kansas on the ticket as his Vice president. Mr. Ford, while not weak on defense at all, was an internationalist, verses an isolationist. It is just, Mr. Reagan was genuinely afraid of communism, dictatorship.
Jimmy Carter, Peanut Farmer, and former governor of Georgia won the Democratic nomination for President. This is the first election I was old enough to vote in; as, Democrats will protect the interests of the Poor, and Republicans won’t. [Well. The poor are now out of the picture; but I had thought at the time, they will be put in the picture; this is America.] Mr. Carter, as a centrist, was protecting abortion rights, civil rights, and to be a legal president, but had to defend himself against the Republican’s “Democrats are big spenders” accusations. After all who is a big spender? No one is for that in reality. It is a ruse cover up. And since no one knows clearly, how the economy works, including Mr. Carter, it is thus, the deficit is all they discuss now. [As the communists are coming; or, tough on crime, or social issues that are not in the president‘s control, such as abortion]. Now, Democrats are big budget cutters also, and the economy is not discussed in any sort of real way at all; none whatsoever. [Mr. Ford was the last president to understand the stimulus idea.]

The Federal Reserve won’t begin raising interest rates again, until about 1978, because the economy is in a downturn; however, the FED decides this, not the presidents, who can have a view though.
The economy was not the main issue, as the FED under Mr. Ford is, during 1976, beginning their trend to lower interest rates until the end of the decade. Everyone was sick and tired of the Watergate scandals, crookedness in government, and simply tired of the Vietnam War. Carter promised a blanket pardon for all religious refugees and Vietnam War draft dodgers; Ford wanted only a conditional amnesty. This I do recall, everyone was tired of Watergate foremost, is why President Ford, the Republicans could not win. This is how it seemed; yet the election was very close, and Carter barely won.

1976 rhymes with 1776. It was the Bi Centennial celebration birth day for the United States of America. [My graduating high school class in San Antonio, Texas, 1976, students could purchase red, white, and blue class rings, instead of the school colors.] The bi-centennial was highly touted, but I don’t recollect anything too unusual.
….Well, don’t recollect, but the 200th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party was celebrated in Boston, by a large turnout of people who were having their own Counter celebration, where they threw packages marked “Gulf Oil”, and “Exxon”, into Boston Harbor, as one way to oppose Money in Politics. If I can purchase political favors, then the wealthy get to be our Dictators.
