Subject: Laura Ingall's Information*

I have some really interesting information i'd like to share about The Little House On The Prairie series about Laura Ingall's , On friday night 8/24 , My neighbor's and I had a moving back to Minnesota party for our neighbor
(2 miles away) , Kathy Ingall's , Laura's elderly cousin , and YES , she knew Laura well.

She told me how Laura's 2 week old son died , He Had Epilepsy and died of mass convulsion's.

Mary never married and Lived with Carrie and her family after Charles and Caroline passed on.
She never married , no children , blindness due to Scarlett Fever.

She said Charles infact was an accomplished Fiddle Player as the show highlight's.

As far as Job's that he would take to provide care for his family , yes , he drifted from job to job , he wasn't one that wanted to stay with a job for any length of time as he would become restless.

I got to see pictures of The family , The Girl's were all beautifull young ladies. Laura died in 1957.

There was no Albert Quinn. That was made up for the Tv series so the Tv ratings would be high.

Their life wasn't anything like the tv series portrayed at all. They were just a normal couple in the 1800's raising a family of 4 girl's.

There was a gene deffect for males born into the family by Caroline , as it was from Her side of the family , this happened often to her family side before her mother.

I hope you guy's enjoy this little bit of Real History for the Ingall's Family.

I think it's pretty neat to know a member of The Ingall's Clan , My friend > Kathy Ingalls.
She's moving home to Minnesota because she's dying of Hodgekin's disease.

Charles's fiddle is still in the family and she's seen it before.

As a long time LIW researcher, I applaud your effort to share accurate information about Mrs. Wilder.

However, must correct a few items:

Mary Ingalls' loss of sight was the result of a stroke brought on by a severe case of measles, not scarlet fever.

While Mrs. Wilder described the death of her son as being from a convulsion, she never recorded more than the one episode. As the child was a newborn, it's unlikely that the attending doctor would have already made a definite diagnosis of epilepsy. It may be believed by the family, and it may have been true, but it was never established. Epilepsy is not the only cause of convulsions.

Charles' fiddle is currently housed in the LIW Home and Museum in Springfield, Missouri, and can be seen by all visitors.

Lastly, while it's true that the Ingalls family relocated off, it wasn't always only due to Charles Ingalls' being "restless". Their time in the Indian Territory near Independence, Kansas was cut short by a government resolution that returned land to the Indians and forced white settlers to vacate their farms. The Ingalls family farm in Plum Creek, Minnesota was abandoned after repeated crop failures. Those factors contributed to his wanderlust.
