Subject: Bonanza Illustrations

I have been searching and searching, but I can't find who did the illustrations at the beginning and ending of each Bonanza show. Yes, I know who did the map, but who did the other artwork? And where would I go to possibly get a print of some of them? Thanks!!! S.

They were lost or destroyed in the 60's at NBC. All of them inc. The later years sketches. An unsung NBC journeyman artist made them and he left the network and so did the other one who later made them.

Thank you, Rick! Wow, really sad to hear they are gone. Would have loved to have had copies of some of them. Well, at least they saved the iconic map of the Ponderosa. Thank you again, S.

You're welcome! They survive only on the 35mm prints they were shot on at Paramount in 1959 and later in the show. That's the TV business; things get thrown out that shouldn't be!

Wasn't Disney a genius? Look what they get for those old cells. No garbage bin for them. Now most of the artwork is done on computer. So they will only grow more scarce and increase in value. Anyone up for a roll of MacGyver's duct tape? adamseve

The disposing of animation production cels from the golden age by Warner Bros. (Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies) has often been referred to as the "Billion Dollar Bonfire." They would either burn them, wash them and re-use, or discard them in trash cans because of storage space. Fortunately, there were some wise individuals who would retrieve them from the trash, which is one reason why some exist today.
