Author: Buffy's vampire
Subject: Dominance by BV on WF

There was a pertinent post on this forum recently that extoled the virtue of less rather than more.

I have taken the point that the Internet is a vast resource for all of us who seek. Therefore it is pioneer space, this cyber world we venture into. We bumble along and our experiences somehow influence the structures of future use of this form of communication. Rules are set to govern that use, based largely upon these experiences.

Apart from deletions by WF Admin, our entry into that forum is free. How we behave once inside is a matter for judgement as we bumble along.

That dominance by BV has been determined by Itlod to be 'racist' in that BV is characterised as 'masta' and the rest of forum posters as 'kanakas' is enough to deter the BV from going there again.

In other words, things got out of hand and meanings had become misconstrued. That it reached the land of 'race' is sufficient cause for 'me' to decide that BV had run its course.

I have created enough characters to fill a book [ha ha ha] and I know when one of those characters has taken on a life of its own. I'd say that Buffy's vampire was a success, as a character. The BV became an institution to be laughed at, laughed with, reviled and ignored because of its potent reposte and seemingly impervious nature. The BV did not stay and argue with others; it moved along, to create another contentious issue, or to allow a contentious issue to be made from its innocuous posts.

I have developed a further understanding of contemporary Papua New Guineans from these conversations on the WF. This helps to develop my knowledge of that fabulous land and its fascinating peoples.

We'll see who turns up next.
