Subject: Terrorists aim to penetrate PNG and Oz from West Papua

Recently a wantok on WF predicted terrorist infiltration into PNG from across the border with West Papua. This was met with posts of disdain and ridicule and a speckle of credulity.

Now The Independent newspaper concurs:

REPORTS from the jungle office of the Operasi Papua Merdeka (OPM) says Papua New Guinea has only two years to stand fast before having to deal with international terrorism.
This report, the OPM says, supports other reports that Papua New Guinea is vulnerable to being infiltrated by terrorists in their fight against America, Australia and their allies.
The OPM jungle office on the PNG/Indonesian border says this very much depends on the behaviour of individual leaders, those in positions of power and those in decision making bodies and how they lead.
The office says if PNG is not careful, terrorists will find it very easy to enter the country.
“The Papua New Guinea government should not be blind or deaf to this OPM warning. Currently 200 plus men are undergoing terrorism training in a jungle hideout at a place called Ipargunum, Sentani area outside Jayapura city.
“The OPM is afraid to say that after the training at Ipargunum, the terrorists will spread across West Papua. And we should not down play the idea that these terrorists will make plans to infiltrate PNG. What happened in Aceh and other parts of Indonesia where Muslims fought against Christians will happen in PNG. This is religious war, further reproving God’s word. So PNG, a Christian country, should not be like the apostle who did not believe till he saw with his own eyes.”
The OPM office spokesman, Nicholaus Ipo’hau told The Independent that security in PNG was either very relaxed or non-existent.
He said PNG was lucky to have the OPM in between, playing host in providing security for the country.
He added that the OPM supported calls that PNG ‘review and amend’ her open policy on religion.
Mr Ipo’hau further added that the PNG government should deport those religions who have current world wide allegations of acts of terror against them.
“PNG’s security along the border is lacking from Vanimo to Daru. Terrorists can walk into Papua New Guinea posing as missionaries, doctors, tourists or just friends of Papua New Guineans.
“These people are brainy, and while in PNG, could use the chance to train local youths and criminal elements to carry out terrorist tasks around the country or overseas.
“Terrorism is at PNG’s door. It may be during the day, night and or when PNG is not ready. When it happens, it will be the darkest moment for the country just like America and Bali,” he said, before calling on the people, other leaders, the 109 members of parliament and the government to say no to terrorism and terrorist agents setting up bases or offices in PNG soil.
