Rainbow Flag Legit Court Rules

(Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) The highest court in Canada's smallest province has ruled that a Prince Edward Island man was not discriminated against when a gay-pride flag was raised above Charlottetown City Hall.

Ron Jenkins believes his rights were infringed upon when Mayor George MacDonald showed support for Pride Week 2001 by ordering the Rainbow Flag raised over the building. Jenkins, a postal worker, first took his complaint to the province's Human Rights Commission, when it was dismissed he took the case to the province's Supreme Court.

Justice Jacqueline Matheson ruled, while Jenkins may be offended, the flag does not discriminate against him.
"If I went through the court system again, it wouldn't be on discrimination. It would be on what is right. I still think flag flying is a serious business," said Jenkins.

"But now we belittle it so much by putting these rinky dink flags up over the city. I don't think Ottawa would fly a flag like that over the whole country. Or the province." Jenkins says he will now start lobbying city aldermen to pass a bylaw on what sort of flags can fly over city hall.
