What does a flag really mean - either the governmental ones or a rainbow one?

I guess if it was for pride week, it makes sense, but I would hope it supplemented rather than replaced the regular flag. I'm still a bit undecided about "pride" I guess.

I am proud of my personal decisions, who I am as a person, proud of my ACTIONS. I'm not proud of brown hair or blue eyes - why should I be proud of being gay? I'm not especially proud of being an "American" - I just happened to be born here and that's that - I didn't pass a test or anything.

I know pride and self-esteem and related personal issues are very relevant topics for many (most?) people, and I certainly can't say much considering living as a straight all my life and mostly still in the closet. I don't mean to downplay any of that or the tough choice of being out, I guess I just consider "pride" a more personal thing than a demographic group I belong to?

I guess you can be proud OF a group, whether or not you are a member of it.

(Don't let Lance see this! Heh heh!)
