Walleye and the new catch and release bass season opened on Saturday and fishing seems to be good for both species from the reports I've heard. I could not get out until Sunday night (5/5/02) due to family and work commitments. However, my neighbor and I did finaly get out for 1 1/2 hours from 8pm - 9:30 pm. We got 2 walleye and 5 bass on rapalas in very shallow water around points. The walleye were 19 inches and 17 3/4 inches. The bass ranged from 12 - 15 inches.
I would have stayed longer, except that we broke the key off in the ignition going for the net on one of the walleye.
Panfish action should be good as well. I noticed large schools of bluegill with some perch mixed in around my dock in the afternoon
Hope everyone had a good opener.
Good luck.
Norm
