In my humble opinion, the reason that leaders can act like that and get away with it is that there is nothing to stop them. If the leaders had to depend on their people more, then they would have to learn to work the masses in order to accomplish their goals. Right now they have nothing to fear...

Maybe when the money runs short they will learn that if they are to survive they will have to repect the masses more, because it is their shoulders that they are (or should be) standing on.

In any case, I think the system ought to be set up so that bad leaders perish. Give it some time, I say. When their money runs out and they have no more underlings, they will fall.

Of course, I don't have the same perspective as Elwar, so maybe I've got it all wrong...
