Well, it's kinda restrictive here. Handguns are out of the question, as are fully automatics. In order to buy/own a gun I'd have to get an FAC which requires my taking a course & a criminal records check. The part that trips me up is taking that course. Usually, in the places I hang out, the course is only held a few times a year, costa about $400 and takes a week or so (maybe longer). I'm a travelin' man & don't stick around long enough for it to matter. As for killing a bear, if it attacks a person it's fair game; same as any other animal. The damn greenies might raise a fuss but I know a good place for them to shove their objections. Right now I carry bear spray and, having had an encounter with the stuff, can say that I'm pretty confident that it will stop a bear. If that doesn't stop one, it will seriously hinder it, and I still have my razor sharp Buck knife. Sounds like big macho BS but, in such a situation, what's there to lose? If it comes down to standing there & pi$$ing myself while the bear carves me up, or ripping a few big holes in it, I know what I'd do. Actually, I'm not too worried about bears, my dog is good for spotting them before they get too close, it's more the 2 legged animals that I watch out for. Nothing like a can of bear spray to pacify a group of drunk/drugged up idiots who figure that a trip to the woods is a great way to release atavistic impulses towards violence & aggression. It's surprising how many time, in the woods, I've come across little baggies with and the leavings of crackheads. Bad news and, as far as I'm concerned, keep it in the city. It's unfortunate that, in the rural areas, there seems to be a burgeoning problem with coke & crystal meth. Regardless of protestations to the contrary, i consider anyone who does hard drugs to be someone who will do me dirt; not if, but when.. and I'll have nothing to do with them. ..Willy.
