Hi Jim,
Haven't posted on the forum for a long time now but happened to stop by this morning for a visit. I saw your post regarding the "Beck Drywasher" and just wanted to comment. First off I wish I could help you out in your quest for the parts you need but unfortunately I can't. I'd love to have one of Mr. Becks drywashers myself. You and I talked (email) back when you wrote those articles about "Young Fella" AKA "Lunk" for ICMJ. I told you I had met Mr Beck back in 1967 in Randsburg, CA when he was the curator of the museum there. At that time I wasn't prospecting and had no idea how famous he was. We would talk about his rock and mineral display etc. I remember that he had one of his drywashers at the museum and if I remember correctly, it was all red in color!! Jim, I have a beautiful, all Mahagony, bellows drywasher that I had custom built by a Mr. Sam Radding in San Diego, CA back in 1996. I love those old fashioned "Bellows Drywashers" don't you? I've found a lot of gold with Mr Radding's drywasher using a method called "Snipping". I work very shallow (0"- 8") in little gulleys (ditches?)on gold bearing slopes and down in shallow washes.
The rate of puffs per minute varies from 120-180 depending on the type and condition of the material I'm working. Someday I'd really like to meet you and do a little drywashing with you. Heck, I'd even go out onto a dirt parking lot where there's no gold just to be able to say I drywashed with "Jim Straight". I have all your books Jim and love um. Jim are you going to the outing in February that's being talked about over on the "AZO" Forum? Do you know of any folks that are "Bellows Drywasher" fans that have get togethers?? If not, maybe something to think about here :o)
