Phil, thanks for the kind words. First off, you need to analyze WHY you need, or want, another detector. You state that you have a Goldbug II, and are doing well with it. Do you NEED more depth? ARE there deeper nuggets to be had in your area? Then a larger coil for your GBII MAY be the most cost-effective way of improving performance. More depth, AND smaller nuggets, can also be gained by using really high performance (i.e. high decibel output) headphones. If the headphones you are currently using are not putting out at least 100 decibel output, then you might consider buying good ones. A bigger coil, and better headphones, are the most cost-effective way for most detectorists to upgrade the performance of their "old" detector. As far as new VLF prospecting detectors are concerned, the three newest released ones are the White's GMT, White's MXT, and Minelab Eureka. If you are seeking to upgrade from your GBII you should seriously analyze the features each of these models offer BEFORE you buy. Which one is best for you? You need to decide for yourself. Personally, I use a chest-mounted GMT, with the standard, and smaller, DD coil, and the Koss E-Series 9000 headphones (100 ohm impedence, 101 decibel output). The MXT is about 98% as good a nuggte hunter as is the GMT, but the MXT is also a superb multi-purpose machine. Take your time in deciding whether you should upgrade the headphones/coils for your GBII, or whether you should totally upgrade to another machine. If you can, attend one of the Gold Shows; you will get a chance to see lots of machines, and talk to lots of users. Personally, I will be at the Reno GPAA Show March 22 and 23, the NUPA Show in Ogden Utah April 5 and 6, and the GPAA Show in Primm NV April 12 and 13. If you haven't been to a show, you will be amazed at how much you will see and learn at one. Hope this helps; HH Jim
