post an interesting question. But what "Does the higher frequency offer better performance?" question mean? Are you asking two questions? About "Voltage" and about "Frequency?"

Most detectors now have voltage regulators to regulate and protect the components against higher voltage. If they fail the result is a "fryed 'whatever.'"

The 17000 was originally designed with a standard rechargeable pack. Perhaps the 10- rechargeables at 1.2 do not overwhelm the on-board voltage regulator?

This is a good question for the "boys in the backroom" at the Minelab repair center.
