Seekers and Disciples

Dear Friend,

Thank you for taking the time to explore the Community of Christ. This community of faith-seeking disciples has had a significant impact on my life as a child, teenager, young adult, and now as its leader.

I remember my experience as a child growing up in Ontario, Canada, and feeling a true sense of belonging within the small congregation where I attended church. I felt valued and loved by the people there and I even felt that there were important things for me to do. I was needed by the community. It is hard to overstate how important that nurture was as I grew.

The story of this church began with a teenager seeking to understand what God wanted him to do with his life. I believe that search for meaning and hope is central to every person's life journey. It is for our faith community and for me personally. I have found my life enriched by my association with other "seekers" as I have ministered around the world.

In those travels I have met people in many places, from rural villages in Africa to teeming cities in the Orient, and I see in them the same desire to have a sense of belonging to a community of meaning and purpose. I am assured that the very things I sought as a child are vital to the well-being of people in every culture and of every age. That is why I believe that God calls us to create community, that we might seek truth in companionship with others and together find ways to support one another and serve those in need.

As you continue your personal search for purpose and for a group of people who will care for and support you, we invite you to get to know us. The person giving you this booklet, as well as the staff of our world headquarters, will be most happy to provide whatever assistance might be helpful.

May God's blessings be with you as you continue your search for meaning and for a community in which to engage in that process of discovery.
