>Hello
My husband and I have been a Cane Corso owner for 2 1/2 years now. His name is Duce and we love him to death. But....I will say that he is a great dog and now that he is maturing, he is much better, but for the first 1 1/2 years, we had our hands full. He is very dominant and aggressive. He is very high maintenance. He has hip displaysia already so we cannot exercise him as much as we would like to. My husband is the alpha male which is very important. I am considered beneath Duce. He does not respect me but he knows the role I play in this family. He knows that I feed him, take care of him and comfort him. But, I am also a threat to him. We cannot give him pigs ears or hip bones anymore because of how territorial he is. He has gone after me several times since we've had him but has never done any type of damage. He is very loyal and very protective of us and never strays. He loves everyone, especially kids. Dogs are another story. He will not outright attack another dog but he will put one in its place when provoked. He has never hurt another dog, thank God, but you still can't be too careful. We had him trained at PetSmart, more for socializing but eventually we did have to send him away to be pinch collar trained. I do not believe in these methods but I refused to get rid of him. We do not have kids yet and I am not sure what he will do when we have kids. I am hoping that by then he will be even more mature and loving and that we have no problems. I have run into a couple other owners who have had to either get rid of their Cane Corso or put to sleep. This dog is definitely not for first time dog owners. You're better off with an English Mastiff.
