Subject: Rookie of the Year Controversy

Accusations of favouritism flew around the league today as fans of Fort Wayne Safari Sensation HB Lincoln Coleman was not selected as Rookie of the year. Instead, it went to the very respectable LB Brian Urlacher who amazed even Mississippi fans with 9.0 sacks as a rookie.

The pro-Coleman side was described in the words of the Fort Wayne Safari GM a week ago"Last year we were 0-14. This year, Coleman scored about 1/6 of our points and played 13 games. Without him, we would be 0-14 again."

The knock on Urlacher came from one Fort Wayne Times columnist, Johnny Joccen: "9.0 sacks is great. But he isn't even on the list for tackles! If he was, it would mean that the Mississippi D was poor and that he had to carry the team. Instead, Mississippi has the highest rated defence! How can anyone go wrong on the highest rated defence? Let me be clear: both players had stellar performances this year. But, as Urlacher had the help of Goff and Jurasin, his production pales in comparison to our own Fort Wayne's Coleman!"

Coleman's agent Sammy Sterner was more blunt: "My man Coleman kept FWS in some very close games. Portland had to win in overtime! Coleman GAVE the Safari have an opportunity to win every game he played, while Urlacher simply took advantage of the opportunities given to him. It's no surprise Urlacher was on the commish's team! Want to see who is the rookie of the year next year? Just look at whoever Mississippi drafts in the first round!"

Mississippi officials have been contacted for comment, but have so far not participated.
