While Rookie of the Year voting
was close in 2005, it was LB Casey Urlacher (Mississippi) that beat out HB Lincoln
Coleman (Fort Wayne).

Below are the leagues comments,
and feel free to chime in.



COLEMAN:

Positives/Negatives:
Fort Wayne was able to average 4.7 yards per carry, which was the 2nd highest
in the league, however they ran the ball only 277 times, by far the lowest in
the league. Their high yards per carry mostly came on scramble plays as QB Browder
and QB Shields averaged over 10 yards a carry (Browder 17-179, Shields 7-182).
While the team did average 4.7 per carry, Coleman averaged 3.8 yards per carry,
11th best of any HB with over 100 carries. Coleman did have 1 game over 100 yards,
and 4 "Quality games" as a whole. What ultimately hurt Coleman was not
playing his last game. Had he topped the 700 yard mark, we think this might have
made a difference. Here are his gamelog below.

Positives/Negatives:
The record for most sacks
by a Linebacker in a year is 11, held by 3 players. In 2005, Louisiana's Jermaine
Smith had 11, Colorado's Jeff Main had 10, and tied for 3rd was Mississippi's
Casey Urlacher with 9. Urlacher played LB3 the entire year, and from that position
was able to gather 69 tackles and 9.0 sacks. He also had 6 straight games with
a sack and did well against quality teams, especially near the end of the year.
Also, Mississippi surrendered only 262 points (8th best in the league, 2nd best
in Confernece) and was #3 against the pass, and #6 against the rush. Adding
all of these into the equation make us think Urlacher was more deserving of
the Rookie of the Year award. Here are his gamelog below.
