Subject: WEEL 10 HUGE FOR PLAY OFFS???

I CAN’T STAND IT ANY MORE MORE… I CAN’T STAND IT ANY MORE MORE… but, if Candy would just come back here, it would be OK…” Lou Reed’s Wild Child album’s incantations blared at max volume repeatedly at the under ground lair deep in the bowls of the Bayou Dome that serves as the `office [retreat?]’ of Owner/GM Jimmy Hanlon after the latest crushing defeat. The post-game press conference whirred ad nauseum on the newly installed wide screen plasma display. “… This one hurts bad” he said RE: the latest loss. “… Regardless, y’all gotta admit it was a HELLUVA game. The fans got their moneys worth, and it was great for league exposure. We are NOT a team that will rest on its laurels and expect another championship to drop into our laps. We scout and prepare well, and expect to win every week. But almost every team in this league improved this season. Kudos to Dayton, they found a way to get it done. We still have a few games left, so let’s see how it shakes out.”

Week 10 is important because the pool of 13 teams still in contention will drop dramatically after this week. We feel it’s noteworthy to address 2 issues this week: 1) the FG range adjustment: is a good thing… there are A LOT of excellent place kickers, and the veterans are finally getting the respect they deserve… no need to mention the excitement they have contributed to this season’s games! 2) May be way off base here, but we have witnessed too many 8 – 10 sack games this season… DL/LB have WAY too much AC/AG? (HATE to bring this up because the Beast suck in these areas… BUT) something needs to happen this off-season to cure this odd anomaly? Our 2 cents worth…

Green Bay having recurrent nightmares lately of one the ending scenes of the old `48 HOURS’ movie “… I can’t BELIEVE it… I got SHOT!” The Bombers are improved, but it’s time face reality… the offense is just not ready for prime time. QB Luedtke is good, but he’s been sacked more times than any other QB in the league. The rush offense ranks last in the league. Peruse the offensive roster, and these elements are tied to a common thread: the ` O ‘ line does not have the ST or EN to compete with the elite teams in this league. Couple that with the lack of SP/AC/AG of the QB position (he’s a pocket passer and an immobile target for stronger defenses) and zero standout RBs (stats don’t lie… 18th rushing?). Green Bay is a season or 2 away from becoming a GREAT team. They are GOOD now, and NOT to be taken lightly. The defense has learned how to create turnovers and that’s huge… but until studly personnel arrive at QB, ` O ‘ line and RB, the Bombers cannot be considered among the elite. PATIENCE grasshopper! Steel Valley is rebuilding, and going through the growing pains necessary with that program. This will be a close individual match up. Steel Valley is due a divisional W. Green Bay an impressive 4 – 0. IF they pull off the upset, they would be well on their way to their 1st play off appearance ever. Line set a Steel Valley – 2.

FINAL SIDE NOTE: Check the archives, and you will find a former owner of the Green Bay Bomber franchise that impugned the integrity of the FIFL and its’ commish early into his inaugural season. This individual was rightfully summarily disbarred from the league the next week following his biting disparaging commentary RE: that this league is pre-ordained as to what team wins in any given week, and especially as to who wins it all. Many of you may recall this controversy. It was only through the graces of repeated requests and the intervention of influential friendships imposed upon that this individual was allowed back into the league. That individual had to come to grips with the EXTREMELY BASIC nature of this league. DO NOT expect, despite your successful expertise with FBRO ‘97, to join this league and expect to win overnight. IT IS POSSIBLE, but you need to be UNGODLY lucky to inherit a team with a quality core of players, and pull off seemingly obscene trades to win it all. THIS IS THE TOUGHEST LEAGUE I’VE EVER PLAYED IN! (And I’ve played the game quite successfully since its’ inception!) You wanna play against some of the best ever to play this game? You’re there. ‘nuff said.
