Subject: WEEK 10 PREVIEW +

Dateline Baton Rouge…

Louisiana sports radio… “… weahl luzahnna sporht fayans, dis week yeahll get da hedline gayem o’ da week in dis excintn too thausaznd an too ee-eF-EYE-eaL seazn… da hated Mobeel Seegulz stayand in da way of ouwer Beahst and iats’ quest fer a deevizshn tiatle… an we’ahll got to git dowan dere to sheowa dem boyz whoas boas… ya’ll need to git in whaevah veehicklz ya’ll got and root dis teham on… no douht dis gona be a screamah… yeahll geot to ADmit mahnujmint haes dun iats lehavah baehst ta puit dis teyam ian poztishian ta wian… “ the lightning charged dribble droned on as week 10 in the FIFL prepares for yet another thrilling week of division deciding match ups.

Baton Rouge Advocate article:

Here’s a TV guide to games this week:

MUST WATCH: *****

Louisiana (6-3) at Mobile (6-3)

LOU offense 2nd 94.0 rush - [8th] / 273.9 pass - [2nd]
defense 4th 94.0 rush - [10th] / 215.1 pass - [3rd]
scoring 20.4 for - [12th] / 17.7 against - [3rd]
---------------------------------------------------------
MOB offense 4th 84.6 rush - [13th] / 269.6 pass - [5th]
defense 15th 79.9 rush - [5th] / 276.7 pass - [18th]
scoring 25.9 for - [1st] / 23.7 against - [15th]

GAME OF THE WEEK! Whoever wins this game probably wins the Gulf Division title. Louisiana dispatched Fort Wayne at home last week 20 – 7. Mobile lost a stunner 31 – 34 at Lincoln. Beast WR Anthony Payton, a former Seagull, now is comfortable in the Beast system, and is the all-time FIFL leader in receptions. He remains a scant 80 yards short for all-time yards. The Seagulls counter with stud HB Marquette Smith, who exited early due to injury in Louisiana’s W over this squad at Louisiana. Let’s digress for a moment: I thought I posted a statement earlier that predicted the Beast TC and added personnel would produce improved defensive and special teams numbers. That is now a reality… indeed, no team approaches the Beast #2 ‘ O ‘ and #4 ‘ D ‘ numbers… that prediction and the blueprint for this team is on schedule. This is the latest ultimate test: can Louisiana defeat a quality opponent on the road? Mobile can score in bunches. If they get hot, it’ll be over early. If it’s close late, we like our chances. Regardless, we are experiencing a changing of the guard RE: the Gulf division. Expect a strong contingent from Louisiana to root this team to the W. Line set at even… pick ‘em.

Portland (4-5) at Colorado (4-5)

POR offense 8th 70.2 rush - [17th] / 272.1 pass - [3rd]
defense 17th 103.6 rush - [13th] / 256.7 pass - [16th]
scoring 20.7 for - [10th] / 22.4 against - [12th]
---------------------------------------------------------
COL offense 15th 97.8 rush - [7th] / 205.4 pass - [16th]
defense 3rd 90.9 rush - [8th] / 206.7 pass - [1st]
scoring 18.0 for - [15th] / 20.4 against - [9th]

If Colorado loses they are done with title chasing this season. They would fall to 0 – 4 in their division. The Wildcats have lost 2 in row, the latest a disturbing 7 – 27 blowout at home to Wichita. OG Greg Jones strained a hamstring and probably rides the pine this week. Portland lost at Utah 16 – 24. QB Albert Higgs faces the #1 rated pass defense this week. HB Coe Bonner needs to elevate his play if the Prowlers expect to win this week. The Wildcats seem to running out of gas. This is any bodies game… line set at even… pick ‘em.

BEST OF THE REST: ***1/2

Fort Wayne (4-5) at Madison (6-3)

FWS offense 17th 81.9 rush - [15th] / 200.7 pass - [17th]
defense 7th 103.2 rush - [12th] / 221.9 pass - [6th]
scoring 17.9 for - [17th] / 20.0 against - [7th]
---------------------------------------------------------
MAD offense 14th 93.6 rush - [9th] / 212.3 pass - [14th]
defense 5th 107.6 rush - [15th] / 214.3 pass - [2nd]
scoring 22.2 for - [8th] / 17.3 against - [2nd]

Fort Wayne fell short 20 – 23 at Black Hills. Madison was burned by the Fire Dogs at Mississippi 16 – 18. The Safari must have this one… still 3 – 1 in the division, dealing the division leading Mad Dogs their 1st division loss is their only recourse to stay in the title hunt. They would still be 2 games back with 4 to play. QB Nick Browder and HB Clinton Childs need to have monster game if the Safari expect to continue… so far, the ‘ O ‘ has been a disappointment. Madison stumbled last week, but will find a way to end the Safari… Line set at Madison –3.

Black Hills (6-3) at Utah (5-4)

BLK offense 6th 114.2 rush - [4th] / 235.2 pass - [9th]
defense 2nd 64.1 rush - [1st] / 230.1 pass - [10th]
scoring 25.0 for - [2nd] / 20.1 against - [8th]
---------------------------------------------------------
UTA offense 1st 107.6 rush - [6th] / 275.8 pass - [1st]
defense 6th 74.1 rush - [2nd] / 250.2 pass - [13th]
scoring 22.3 for - [7th] / 17.8 against - [4th]

Black Hills narrowly held off Fargo 23 – 20 at home. The Rattlers stung Portland 24 – 16 at home. There is some significance to this game. Utah needs the W for possible home field advantage were it to win a playoff slot. The Rattlers are reigning National Conference champs. Mae Raphael, mea Raphael, mea maxima Raphael… the Machine will ad nauseum attempt to employ their tried and true formula for success. The Rattlers found a way around that ploy last season… can they do again? They have the #1 rated ‘ O ‘ so it’s possible. Line set at even… pick ‘em.

Springfield (5-4) at Mississippi (6-3)

SPR offense 5th 82.7 rush - [14th] / 270.4 pass - [4th]
defense 13th 109.8 rush - [16th] / 242.3 pass - [11th]
scoring 22.9 for - [4th] / 21.8 against - [11th]
---------------------------------------------------------
MIS offense 7th 128.6 rush - [2nd] / 220.4 pass - [12th]
defense 11th 93.4 rush - [9th] / 243.4 pass - [12th]
scoring 22.8 for - [5th] / 20.7 against - [10th]

“…Many moons passed, the boyz dream grew strong, ‘till tomorrow he would sing his 1st war song, and fight his 1st battle but something went wrong… surprise attack killed the Slayers in their sleep last week (thanx, Jimi) 16 – 25 vs Honolulu at home. DT Josh Fordyce probably misses another game rehabbing his strained back. Mississippi held off a tough Madison squad to stay alive 18 – 16 at home. CB2 Sammy Walker will miss this one with a neck sprain (ouch!) Intriguing match involving 2 teams on the cusp this season. Both teams need the W to keep pace with division rivals. The Fire Dogs will lean on HB Damon Benning. The Slayers hope QB Wilke Perez has another miracle in his bag. 3 Teams from the Great Plain division may make the playoffs if the Slayers can muster some Ws down the stretch. Line set at Mississippi –3.

NAP TIME? **

Fargo (3-6) at Wichita (6-3)

FGO offense 11th 86.7 rush - [12th] / 243.6 pass - [7th]
defense 12th 87.9 rush - [6th] / 250.7 pass - [14th]
scoring 20.0 for - [13th] / 24.8 against - [17th]
---------------------------------------------------------
WCH offense 3rd 117.3 rush - [3rd] / 239.4 pass - [8th]
defense 8th 99.7 rush - [11th] / 228.2 pass - [7th]
scoring 20.4 for - [11th] / 18.7 against - [5th]

Fargo lost a close one 20 – 23 at Black Hills. The Warlords massacred Colorado 27 – 7 at Colorado. Fargo is pretty much out of it. Wichita can take a large step toward a division title and/or playoff slot. Line set at Wichita –7.

Dayton (6-3) at Texas (4-5)

DAY offense 12th 130.4 rush - [1st] / 199.0 pass - [18th]
defense 1st 74.2 rush - [3rd] / 217.4 pass - [4th]
scoring 22.3 for - [6th] / 16.4 against - [1st]
---------------------------------------------------------
TEX offense 10th 91.6 rush - [10th] / 246.8 pass - [6th]
defense 9th 75.9 rush - [4th] / 254.3 pass - [15th]
scoring 23.6 for - [3rd] / 22.6 against - [13th]

Dayton rebounded nicely 30 – 13 at Steel Valley. Texas took one on the chin 24 – 27 at Green Bay in OT. We almost put this one in the “BEST OF THE REST” but the Terminators lost to the Bombers last week. Dayton is the flip side of coin. “… mutha said she no chance, NO chance… HEARTBREAKER…” Line set at Dayton –9.

Lincoln (2-7) at Honolulu (5-4)

LIN offense 13th 90.3 rush - [11th] / 234.6 pass - [10th]
defense 18th 138.4 rush - [18th] / 229.8 pass - [9th]
scoring 19.1 for - [14th] / 24.1 against - [16th]
---------------------------------------------------------
HON offense 9th 111.9 rush - [5th] / 229.1 pass - [11th]
defense 14th 89.7 rush - [7th] / 266.4 pass - [17th]
scoring 22.0 for - [9th] / 19.8 against - [6th]

The Lightning shocked Mobile 34 – 31 at Lincoln. DL Dudley Moore is out with a severe hip pointer. Honolulu secured their 1st road W 25 – 16 at Springfield. LB Craig Walls continues to play with a bruised shoulder. Lightning 0 – 4 on the road, soon to be 0 – 5. Line set at Honolulu –6.

Steel Valley (1-8) at Green Bay (2-7)

STV offense 16th 78.2 rush - [16th] / 216.1 pass - [13th]
defense 16th 137.2 rush - [17th] / 220.4 pass - [5th]
scoring 18.0 for - [16th] / 27.8 against - [18th]
---------------------------------------------------------
GBY offense 18th 67.4 rush - [18th] / 208.6 pass - [15th]
defense 10th 105.3 rush - [14th] / 228.2 pass - [8th]
scoring 15.8 for - [18th] / 23.3 against - [14th]

Steel Valley folded 13 – 30 vs Dayton at home. The tenacious Bombers outlasted Mobile 34 – 31 at Green Bay. Who is more interested in the 1st draft pick this season? Line set at Green Bay –2.

Where ARE you guys? Give us a 2 liner: “ my team is gonna win” “…wait ‘till next season” “… I like player Joe X” ANYTHING helps here! We ALL like reading what other owners are thinking! The war is OVER, ROCK ON!
