Subject: It was ok. Liked NC better or would have liked Charleston
In reply to: WE67 's message, "Columbia is a great area. You liked it there?" on 21:49:09 06/01/02 Sat

or Hilton Head, or Savannah better than Columbia. To tell the truth I got a groove in Columbia but Don *N*E*V*E*R did. But every time I made a major purchase I beat feet to Charlotte.

Anyway AMD recruited him and a few other (though none knew about the other at the time) just before NCR laid off everybody and restructured - WHEW! that was a close one...So in a flash we were off again and literally didn't know if were were to be located in Austin or here in Silicon Valley the whole time we were driving. Kept calling (the guy said head West and I'll get an answer and let you know - he was fighting to get Don for Austin). So that was the longest trip from SC to Texarkana. I was losing it thinking we had to come out here because of the high prices etc etc. At one point we turned back to get to the highway that would take us to Austin (though not more than a hundred miles or so)...can you believe that - another WHEW!

There we lived for a year and nine or ten months before that contract job ended and we were vagabonds for an entire year, living in many different states and him working short term contract gigs for three and six weeks and three months sometimes.

When HP said they wanted him for three years we walked on air to get here and told our hearts to shut the ef up.

Now layoffs are going on again and actually just started friday before last, so far ok but far from out of the woods.
