Subject: Top posting cause I can

Curious to know if any of you have started a vegetable garden. I've got cucumbers ready to pick and tomatoes aren't far behind, but others are just growing big leaves with a few blooms. This is my first attempt at a sizable plot. How often do you fertilize and what do you use? I spend a lot of time hoeing grass and weeds--yeah, I'm the neighborhood ho' I guess. ;-) Last year I had a much smaller plot and before the plants became prolific, leaves began to turn yellow and some of the plants became diseased. I really don't want to treat them with a pesticide, so what do some of you veterans suggest to ensure continued health? I've been using Miracle Gro, but how often should I do that and is that good?

Please don't direct me to a veggie garden web site. I've done that and it's too generic and vague to bother.

I've planted cucumbers, zucchini, varieties of peppers, tomatoes, okra, squash, and one watermelon. I'm having fun with it, but so afraid of screwing up.
