Michiru may or may not have been as angry as Haruka, but she knew that Arietta, being 17, had a lot more experience being a teenager than Kodoku, and Michiru felt it wise not to subjugate her daughter in such a manner as it would only make matters worse.
"Arietta," Michiru said coldly, "why did you do that?"
A tear condensed in Arietta's right eye, and she turned to her mother.
"Because I thought I could use a little booze after that thrashing," she snapped.
"Look young lady," Michiru narrowed her eyes, "you're nearly 18. Kodoku is not. You should set--"
"Oh," Arietta laughed, "like I could prevent KODOKU from doing something she wanted. Not a chance in hell."
"You're gonna try and break her out, aren't you?" Michiru pursed her lips.
"I wouldn't be much of a friend if I didn't," she rebutted. "Are you going to tell Haruka?"
"I wouldn't be much of a mother if I did," Michiru shrugged.
"How can you like her so much," Arietta grumbled, "she's such a bitch!"
With that comment, Arietta didn't have time for thought before her face stung with a very red hand print.
Arietta was stunned.
"Don't you ever say that about her," Michiru roared. "She's more brave than you'll ever know."
"Well the way she's acting now might turn her daughter to the evil side," Arietta grumbled, rubbing her cheek. "Maybe I don't know what you see in her," Arietta fumed, thorougly angered, "but then again, I like guys!"
Michiru raised her hand to slap Arietta again, more angry than ever, but paused as Arietta stood in defiance. "You speak in anger," Michiru said through gritted teeth. "We cannot fight so much that we break the bonds between us. Haruka is not me. You can't excpect her to be me. How she parents is her business. That's why she never tries to punish you. You are my business. But now I am begining to think I let you be far too unruly."
Arietta was shaking, as she was normally the quietest girl imaginable in front of her mother. But she did have the ability to fight, and fight she would until she won. She and her mother may have been a bit reserved, but they both had quite the stubborn streak.
"I am not unruly," Arietta stammered, "I just--just need to let loose a little after a battle. That's all. AndI don't think Kodoku should be condemned like that for the same desire."
With that, Arietta left the room, wondering how the hell she was going to get Kodoku out of that little funky dungeon. She wondered if it would be inapropriate to knock it down with a little Oceanic Maelstrom.
