Well I don't know what's going on but I'm very worried something strange is all I know, to warn you is all I can do.

It all started a couple of weeks ago when I had to go to work one Saturday morning, we had a back log to clear and the only way to do it was when the office was closed to the public. I got there a little before the others and switched my PC on whilst it went through its normal start up I made my self some coffee and had a quick glance at the paper. A beep told me the machine was ready to log into and I put in my password the screen cleared and to my surprise a pulsing red icon appeared in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Icon's don't move not on a desktop. My machine isn't networked and I have a user log so that any interference with the accounts files is damn near impossible, I checked the log and I was the last person to use the machine. When I went back to the main screen the icon was gone so I rebooted and this time all was as usual, I started the backlog and had made good progress when my boss came in to see how we were all doing. He asked me how much longer I would need to finish up as he had a lunch appointment. I told him not long and went back to my number crunching. Within an hour I had finished the inputs, was doing the reconciliation my figures balanced, and I started the back up. As the screen cleared from the back up the red pulsing icon was back no legend under it but it was pulsing, I was curious and clicked on to it. The screen went dark then seemed to burst into light, I had a sensation of vertigo as if I was peering into a bottomless pit or across a vast empty distance. The screen settled I looked for the normal tool bars and there were none only a help button, I double clicked it and recoiled again as the words Yes Please before it is to late appeared across the screen. The keyboard locked up and I couldn't make any keys respond. How do I help I wondered and the screen cleared and my old desktop was showing the red icon gone, I clicked on the programme files and looked to see what this was, to no avail nothing showed. I shut down and went home slightly shaky to say the least; someone was having a joke at my expense and I decided to go along with it until I could catch them.

At home I switched my own PC on and went on line some of my friends were there and I asked if they knew of anyway to cover your tracks in a PC some options were offered but apparently the log system I used was impossible to tamper with. I thanked them and went off-line as the ISP screen cleared there was the little red Icon flashing again I tried again to find out what it was and even tried to reboot the PC it wouldn't let me. I clicked on to the icon again the explosion of light, words scrolling across the screen this time the font was a regular one, and there was a box at the bottom to allow me to type like a chat room. What is this? I typed I don't understand words flowed across the screen Please help us we know you will please use your Internet again but as this screen name. A series of symbols appeared and I made the new screen name and then waited after a moment or two the search engine appeared and began to scroll through web sites pausing here and there then the machine logged off. I was still none the wiser until I noticed a folder on the desk top, I opened it and a list of web addresses appeared they seemed to have no real link to each other but were purely random listings. The print command flashed and then at speed I was not used to the contents of the folder were turned into hard print and the folder itself disappeared. I switched the machine off and looked at the list nothing I could see gave m any clue as to the reason for any of this.

Later that afternoon we went shopping and as per usual I managed to get into the local computer store and wandered around looking at the new software and some of the peripherals. As I passed one of the display models its loop programme stopped and there was the flashing red icon again, looking around me to see if anyone else had noticed I clicked on it. Again the explosion of colour a little more subdued this time and then the screen filled with words that disappeared as fast as I read them, still no clue and then as the store assistant approached it cleared and the loop resumed.

I bought a talky type programme complete with a headset and we went home, I waited till we had eaten and then started to install the software and then to go through the basic recognition sounds so that I could use it. When I had finished the red icon appeared again and this time I could both hear and see the words on the screen the voice was totally artificial and seemed to find English a problem. The conversation went on for about thirty minutes and at the end of it I logged on in the new screen name. Now that I try to think about it I can't quite recall a word of what was said. Once again the search engine appeared and this time as a page appeared it stayed there a question was typed and as the page tried to refuse to answer the screen became a mess of printers pie almost like when you can't open a downloaded file. Then the file cleared and the information that was shown seemed to be just header files. Again the machine logged off and the printer produced hard copy in a form I had never seen, by now I was in a state of mild shock What was this and why was it happening to me? The icon was gone again and as I tried to log on again I was denied access in the new screen name. So I logged on in my own name and went into a chat room to see if any of my friends were about using the talky type I spent a while chatting, catching up on the news and then suddenly tired I logged off and went to bed. The following morning I switched the machine on and the Icon was there again and this time it seemed to have swollen in size I opened it and all that was visible was an e mail address and a copy of some of the sites the hard copy was gone. I logged on and sent the e mail the screen name self deleted.

That was two weeks ago and since then I have seen no sign of the icon what it was or what I did I'm still not sure and I cant find out. The strange thing is that on the Sunday morning my bank account was credited with a small sum of money that I couldn't account for, sometimes as I look out of the window there is a strange car out there.

I am frightened but what do I do, if any of you see a flashing red icon please let me know.
