I got fired from the company I mistakenly thought I wanted to retire with. After 70 hour weeks, tackling $200,000 systems with a days's factory training (on the wrong system) They believed the customer complaints. The customer complaints came from corporate doing things like packing a 48 hour contractual obligation into 40 hours and expecting everything to stay peachy.

I then tried to abandon the 9 to 5 world. I cashed in my 401K and bought into a friend's idea of supplying Halal meat to a growing Muslim and African community. Unfortunately my friend, college educated, did not understand about keeping costs below income and I went broke.

I am now back in the corporate world, minus a 30 year friendship.
