Or demand your boss or employers reimburse you, who knows, it might work and at least you'll let off steam.

Something similar happened to me over ten years ago. I was all set for a trip to China, I signed up for a tour which would have taken me everywhere from the Great Wall to Xian, and which cost me everything I had plus some gifts from some very kind friends. It was my first real trip abroad, I'd never even been to Europe and I was looking forward to it as much as you are to this trip.

That was in June 1989.

One week before my departure date, the Tienanmen Square massacre happened. All travel and tourism stopped, all the westerners in the country left.

And I got my money back just for the asking, even though all the contracts were signed and the agency was in no way to blame for the trip, and the flights were still available. I used the money to go to Europe later in the year, and had three wonderful weeks of exploring Italy, France, and England.

So try and get your money back, it's worth a try, and if this trip doesn't happen another might.
