Subject: This battle..... IS ABOUT TO EXPLODE!

Bought Capcom Vs. SNK 2 this weekend, figure I'll give a review of sorts.

Controls- Overall this is a big improvment over CVS1, I felt CVS1 was "okay" but everybody expected "more", and thats what this delivers. The additional buttons are a godsend, i wasn't a fan of CVS1, 4 button system, so CVS2 6 button configuration works much better. On the PS2 controller you use the L and R buttons for fierce punch and kick [tho it can be changed in the option mode like with most fighting games.]. The Groove systems are also more definitive i think now, before in CVS1 there didn't feel like much of a difference, but in CVS2, it identifies with previous games. Plus the Groove systems are actually explained, in CVS1 whenever i was in the arcade i always forgot which groove did what, so thats another nice plus. I have the Damndest time doing Kyosuke's final symphony. Thats the move thats like the party up technique from Project Justice, where Hinata and Batsu come out. Needless to say thats my favorite move ;-). It's half circle back, twice then kick, but it just defies me. I can do other half circle moves, but i just choke 87% of the time with kyosuke's. The ratio systems another huge improvment over the way it was set up in CS1.

Graphics- Are Pretty good, but I think with the power they have on the PS2, they can make smother sprites. So I iwsh they'd go ahead and do that. Most everyone looks good.... except Morrigan unfortunatly, she looks horrible, she looks like a 16bit character, and Blanka looks kina bad as well. The Light effects from the attacks are very well done, and the backgrounds are really cool, theres lots of Cameo capcom and SNK characters in the background on allot ot levels.

Fun- Theres like 48-ish characters to select from, so it keeps you occupied, and theres lots of fun little extra's that happen when certain charaters face off with each other. The game in itself is fun, but the ultimate source of entertainment with fighting games usually amounts to who your playing against. I pissed off a friend of mine pretty bad last night by just constantly kicking his ass, he kicked his entertainment shelf, and it broke and the stereo system fell over, i had a pretty good laugh.

Sound Effects- I don't know why, but I love the announcer in the game, he just rambles on and says crap, but because of that it gives a bit more of an illusion of a fighting tournament. My favorite thing the announcer says is "This Battle.... IS ABOUT TO EXPLODE!". It's a real kicker hooking this up to a good sound system. The music is "spotty" there are some levels where the music is really good, like on the British stage, and some where its not so good.

Characters- So far my favorites are: Terry Bogard, Kyosuke, Athena, Mai, Morrigan. These are who I'm best with. I wish the capcom side had a little more diversity, instead of so many street fighter losers. I hate Blanka he's such a waste of space, i wish there was a cool character like Hayato, June, Batsu, Jin, Felcia or Akira, in his place. Same with Dalsihm, he's pretty lame too. But the game gets a HUGE thumbs up for Kyosuke, he's so damn cool in the game, they did a great translation of him, as a hard core rival schools junkie, they did a very good job on him. And on the SNK side, i woulda liked to have seen K in there. God Rugal is pretty durn cool boss too.

Set up- This may sound wierd, but the "look" of this games selection screens, and all the that stuff are awesome. I've never realy been wild about selection screens, but CVS2 has a sweet look to it. CVS1 had a pretty neat looking one too, but it was confusing to use.

I think I covered everything, all in all a big improvment over CVS1. Pretty good game, but some aspects need to be cleaned up a bit.

I'd give it an 8.7 out of 10.
