Subject: The status on speedlines

Alright I’ve been kind of dodgey and avoiding questions when people have been asking about SL so I’m going to go into a big long ramble about the situation. It’s been awhile now and I’ve spent allot of that time debating on whether or not I should continue doing SL, and I think the short of it is I’m going to stop for now for a few reasons.

The first reason is the big reason a lack of time. My mom has a degenerative disease, I have spent a good portion of my life taking care of her, and what that involved was staying at home and watching her cause she can’t really walk around, talk very well, or feed herself or other stuff. The reason I bring this up is because of this I had allot of spare time stuck at home, so I used this time to expand one of my hobbies, Japanese Toys. I’m like a sponge when it comes to that stuff, I have this huge scary amount of useless japanese toy information that I farmed because I had allot of time and not much else to preoccupy me. I had the opportunity to do something with this vast amount of useless information and came up with SL. Now last february we had to finally put my mom in a nursing home because between me and my dad we just didn’t have the resources to give my mom the full care she needed. So now while it’s sad that my moms no longer at my house I have to admit it’s like having an elephant lifted off my back, I now have this freedom that I never really had before because I always had to stay home and take care of my mom. Now I can get a non nightshift Job and catch up on being a hooligan, getting thrown into tiajuana jail’s and all the “adventures and romance” I’ve been missing out on for a long time now, get things on track. Unfortunatly this means I have allot less spare time to do something like SL now.

One of the other factor is sometimes I just really don’t see that much interest in Japanese toys at RTM. I know theres intrest in the genre but sometimes I feel like the Blues Brothers stuck in that Country bar. And it doesn’t always seem worth it to bother if no ones really that interested in the first place, if its just a few people its easier to just do it mono e mono.

I really don’t feel good about quitting tho’ because theres still not really any great source of coverage for Japanese toys in the US, the big general sites don’t really go beyond diamond items, which is allot better than it used to be but theres so much stuff out there beyond diamond. Then theres TBDX which is I site I love but they cut back on there news and are mostly reviews now, and on top of that they only cover japanese robots. Great site, but if your looking for some non jp robot love hina toy information your screwed. So one of the reasons I started SL was because I was unsatisfied with Japanese toy coverage in the States, It always seemed like the few times japanese toy news would be reported it’d be reported wrong, mislabled and such or just increadibly vauge and unhelpful information about the availablity, or they’d report old stuff as “NEW!”. There didn’t appear to be any actual japanese toy fans doing anything for the big toy news sites. So I started and tried my best to get information out to people, looking back I really dislike the name “speedlines” what was I thinking? I also don’t like the orginizational system, or should I say the almost non existant orginizational system, I made it so it was really hard to access back information. And while I will be quick to point out others people misinformation on japanese toys, I wasn’t free of that either, there are some pretty bad translations in there, like the worst was the first FFX toy story. I messed up everyones names even my main man Aurons. I’d love to see a site that specializes and just reports on all japanese toys, and frequently updated. It’s something I’m a little surprised doesn’t quite exist yet.

So I guess this is it for now, I’m throwing in the cowboy hat. If anyone else wants to jump in and do some stuff for RTM you have my blessing, more power too you. But for now I’m done, I’m not going to say this as a definate “I WILL NEVER DO WORK AGAIN” I mean if there was some really time efficant easy way to do some stuff every once and a while I probably would, or if I happen to have allot of spare time again I might start back up. Plus I’m not really going anywhere I’ll still be lurking around posting, and of course I’ll be posting Japanese toy news still if people are interested I just can’t really do it in “big format” anymore due to lack of time and energy.
