Well, since he always wanted to get control of the Decepticons he figured he should try to butch it up. After all, would Devastator really take orders from a bot who "played for the other team"?

Of course, little did poor Starscream know, that they always knew about his little secret. He really would have been a much more content robot if he'd just had the courage to be himself.
