re: nudging. That's a "hey you, I'm here, pay attention to me" thing. My buns do it all the time if I'm not watching them at all moments. What I have to watch out for is that if I don't give Thumper immediate attention, the second nudge will be followed by a nip...the other 2 just nudge then go away if I don't stop and pet :)

re: weight. I was told many years ago when I got my first bun that you should be able to feel their ribs, but there should be some meat there too. No ribs, overweight...no meat, underweight...that was the rule of thumb my vet gave me, and remember you have to get beyond the fur. I keep track of the weight measurements the vet gives me at their 6 month nail trims and know about where they should be.

If you want to weigh him/her yourself, you might try getting a box, weigh the box, then put the bunny in the box and subtract the weight of the box to get your bunnies weight....that'll at least get you an approximate if you're concerned about the weight thing. Remember that some buns weight fluctuate with season. My lop and mix-breed cagemate go b/w 4-6 pounds depending on whether they have their winter coat, in between or not. Also, when it starts getting warmer, my buns don't eat much, so their weight can quickly drop in addition to the amount of fur that they're losing. Keep track of it the first year and you can get a pretty good idea of where they're at from there.

Hope this was helpful :)
KarenS.
