Subject: Breeders vs Rescuers (not a "flame")

I know this is a hot topic but I hope I can present it in a way to not upset anyone. I've been looking everywhere for information about starting up a Rabbit Rescue in the future. I've gone to different rescue sites and didn't find much. So I started going to breeder sites- just to see what their set up was like and what not...and so many of the sites say "Beware of rescues, they might turn you in because they are against rabbit breeding." As a future rescuer, I don't want breeders in the area worry about me turning them in or causing problems for them...if anything I will want their help as they can teach me so much about caring for sick buns- among other things. I even emailed a rescue with some questions, they replied to my questions and suggested that I join HRS and start a local chapter-which was the best way to get in the rescue community. Unfortunately I don't agree with a lot of the philosophical views that HRS has and requirements that one must follow when running a rescue. Such as keeping rabbits outside is not permitted. Not that I plan to house the rescues outside but I feel that space is a huge issue and I would think it would be far better for a rabbit to be housed in an outside hutch with a rabbit savvy person than with a neglectful/abusive owner. Don't get me wrong I think that HRS has some GREAT rabbit info but I think that their tone is quite anti-breeder- personally I don't like that and would rather not be affiliated with an organization like that. If anyone-breeder or not has any good information about starting up a rescue and the basics of it- (maybe a website?) or knows a great rescue that would be willing to help me with the thousands of questions I have... I would really appreciate the information. Please email me..or post the information here. I really hope that I didn't offend anyone are start anything....
