The tiger's whiskers twitch as the smaller of the two wolves, the male, bounces off into the brush with the pup. What a weird little thing. He looks a lot younger than he must be. He nods, though, for the benefit of Indira and the female wolf. {Fine.} As Mavikan turns away, he rises and picks up Vanin, then gives Indira a quick nuzzle. {Hey, at least they're offering to help.}

Mavikan almost smiles at her husband's eagerness, and lopes off behind him, glancing over her shoulder toward the tigers. She's glad to be able to help, too, but she's still a bit wary of them.

Indira's tail begins to twitch again as she mulls Mavikan's words over in her mind. She's normally not this thoughtful and tends to be on the impetuous side, but like Neicolas, she's curious as to what their motives may be. Still, there's only two wolves, and the male seems small and not well-desposed towards fighting, anyways. They might lead them into a pack, but she and Neicolas are probably capable of taking on several wolves at once.

It sounds like a good place for Andras, besides. He's sick, and personal risk on their part is worth helping him; they'll just have to be wary and keep their eyes on the wolves. She's a little less tense at the sight of Verena, though...the wolves probably wouldn't be any more willing to put their kid at risk than she would hers.

She finally rises to her feet, the tip of her tail still twitching. {Yeah, fine. It's not like we've got anywhere else to go.} She glances over at Neicolas for a moment as if to make sure he agrees.

Teradryn's ears perk; he's thrilled to be helping, and even more happy that the tigers actually consented. Without even bothering to wait to hear if Neicolas concurs, he takes up Verena in his jaws and almost bounces off into the brush. {It's this way.}

Mavikan falters slightly, watching the irritated tigress with wary eyes for a moment before she speaks. It wouldn't do anyone any good to make enemies here, so she'll be careful; both tigers seem rather short-tempered. {There are some...small caves nearby. They're not far, in a sort of hollow that's heated by some hot springs. We use them during the winter.} Immediately after speaking, the wolf's claws dig into the soil at the realization of what she's just done. It's their only real refuge, and she doesn't know what will become of them should the tigers take over the place and refuse to let them in. She just as well lead them directly into their stronghold. She continues, though, as the tension eases out of her a bit. The tigers and their kittens deserve a safe, warm place as much as they do, after all... {It should be warm enough for him....there's plenty of game there, too. We can show you...}

While a bit less wary of the wolves than Indira, Neicolas still doesn't trust them. Where he's from they're considered nothing but scavengers and competition for their food; there's a heavy division between the tigers' and the wolves' territories, but he can remember crossing the borders to steal from the wolves, who are pretty dumb in his mind. His ears perk as the female speaks, though; the place sounds safe, and must be if the patrolmen they've heard of haven't found it yet. Humans have a way of exploiting places like that, he knows. It sounds like the perfect place to take Andras, but he's still a bit wary of the pair's motives. He remains silent, though; it's not really his decision here, it's Indira's. It sounds all right to him, but it's best to leave it to the mother, as he's learned.

Teradryn fidgets as his wife steps towards the tigers; the other two creatures seemed hardly aware that they were still nearby, and he hopes she didn't startle them. The male, especially, seemed like he had a temper.

The tigress's eyes jerk up to Mavikan. Her fur ripples for a moment or two before she deigns to answer; she edges a little closer to Neicolas, keeping the kittens sandwiched between them. She doesn't care much for canines, and doesn't trust them; wolves look just like fuzzy gray dholes to her, and dholes were typically considered an enemy where she's from. Still, she is desperate to find a place where Andras might recover, and with as unfamiliar as they are with the area that might take some time. {Yeah?}

Vanin emits another squeal and gives what he considers to be a fierce whack on Indira's muzzle, then curls up next to his brother, falling contently quiet again. Neicolas rolls his eyes and nuzzles Indira's ear, then curls a paw around both of the cubs. {I dunno either...hopefully there's somewhere not too far. I don't think we should move him too much.}

Mavikan frowns at the two tigers, setting Verena down snugly between her paws. I don't think so, either... In the moment of silence that follows, it's clear that the wolf is making up her mind. She gives a soft sigh, then nudges Verena toward her father and stands again. {We can help,} she says, taking a step toward the tigers, {We might know a place.}

Indira grins at the high-pitched squeal the cub emits and tickles his face with her whiskers. Tail swishing from side to side, she looks back at Andras and nuzzles beneath his chin, trying to get him to respond. He curls up in a ball and mews at her, but seems like he wants to continue to doze. She flops down next to Neicolas and pulls the kitten near her chest. {Yeah...I guess we should. I dunno where the hell we're gonna go, though.}

Andras curls up in a furry ball between Indira and Neicolas. Indira begins to groom him, though she's a bit preoccupied about where they're even going to head to. Still, maybe cleaning him off will help him a little.

Teradryn frowns, his tail quirking as the tigress brings up the fact that they're both probably very unfamiliar with the area. I want to help. I don't think they know what to do. While the tigers seem well-traveled--they'd have to be--they don't seem to realize much about the area they're currently in, and they seem lost on what to do about their son.

Neicolas's whiskers twitch into a sort of smile at the larger of the cub's protesting squeal as Indira paws him, and slings his own paw around the kitten to gently tickle Vanin's ribs. He feels a bit more comfortable with the stronger cub, not so much like he'd hurt the poor thing when he played with him like Andras. Still, though, he can't help but feel protective for the weaker cub.

{He looks well enough to travel, at least,} he says doubtfully. Of course, she just said Andras looked worse, and indeed he did, but he isn't about to bring it up again. {We should try and find someplace.}

Mavikan frowns, flicking her tail around her back legs as she watches the tiger. She feels sorry for them; they seem so uncertain, despite their casual manner. She wants to help as much as Teradryn does. What do you think? she says, throwing a glance over to him. As she hears Mavikan's mental voice, Verena halts in mid-pounce toward Teradryn and sits, tearing her attention between them and the two kittens several yards away.

OOC:Wow, that really stunk. Sorry if it doesn't really make sense.

Indira leans forward and nuzzles the smaller kitten's face, then gently paws at Vanin to make sure he's all right. She knows she has little to worry about with him--he's generally much healthier than Andras--but she feels safer checking. After being satisfied that the larger of the two cubs is in perfect health, she looks down at Andras again. {Yeah, we should...I dunno if that's gonna help him, though...} Even though she hopes it will. She attempted to reassure Neicolas a few hours ago by telling him she was often sick as a child, but she remembers how close she came to death on occassion; several of her siblings DID die in that manner.

{He's gonna be okay,} she finally reiterates, grooming the kitten's fur. {He's not all that sick right now.}

Teradryn finally decides to leave the tigers alone, though he's curious about the adults and worried about the cub. He nudges Verena to try to get her to play, but still keeps his ears open for anything the others are saying. He wants to help if he can, even if the tigers aren't eager to accept it.

Neicolas pays no more mind to the wolves other than to keep an eye on them; he doesn't care much for any type of canine, and he can't say he'd trust them farther than he can throw them. He curls a paw around the smaller cub, gently turning him over to look at him. {Yeah, he does. We should get him somewhere warmer...}

Mavikan sighs, hers drooping back to either side of her head as she relaxes minutely. At least the tigers didn't kill them on the spot. She sets Verena down in plain sight when she goes to settle down beside Teradryn several yards away, trusting the tigers' parental instincts to let them see that they'd mean no harm to the kittens if they have a cub of their own. At least, that's how her mind works; she could be poorly misjudging them and she knows it, so she's careful to stay out of their way.

All it takes is a glance back into the bush at Neicolas for Indira to see that the cubs are all right; the wolves didn't look particularly harmful, and now that they've actually spoken to her she's starting to calm. She gazes at Mavikan, her tail still whipping back and forth so violently it whips her sides. Her tail is steadily smoothing out--they don't seem to have even touched Andras or Vanin; for all she knows they may have protected them. She's normally not too grateful when someone does her a kindness, but this is her kids.

Indira turns away from the wolves to look into the brush, and nudges Andras with worry. {Damn, he looks a lot worse.}

Teradryn breathes a sigh of relief as the tigress's attention is diverted from him and Mavikan. She didn't say anything, but maybe that's just as well. {He's seemed a little sick,} he offers. Though the parents already seem to have noticed, he wants to be helpful.

Neicolas spots the wolves with the kittens a second after Indira does, but before he can react and rip them to pieces, he's blocked by Indira. He lets out an irritated growl, tail lashing back and forth, and quickly pads around the tree to push his way into the brush to the kittens. He promptly settles down beside them, still silent, and curls his tail around them.

Mavikan bolts to her feet at the arrival of the tigress and snatches Verena up from her place between Teradryn's paws. Without a word she backs several feet away, then finally speaks, ears pinned back against her head. They're even bigger than she had thought they'd be. {We meant no harm, we were just minding them...} She continues to slowly back away, warily watching them both.

Once inside the safety of the forest, Indira shifts, her form quickly molding into that of a small Bengal tiger. She can go faster this way, and picks up the pace, assuming Neicolas will follow. She does realize that they're easier to spot this way, but they're also more able to defend themselves, so she considers it worth the risk.

When she catches sight of Mavikan and Teradryn near the bush where they left the kittens, she stops as though she had run into a brick wall. They don't seem to have harmed anything, but that's not really what's going through her mind at the moment. {Hey, piss off!} She stalks towards them, fur puffed out, to attempt to scare them away; she avoids a lunging attack because she can't be sure she wouldn't step on the kittens that way.

Teradryn looks up as the other voice cuts through his mind and quickly skitters out of the brush.

Mavikan shrugs, resting her head against Teradryn's shoulder. The larger of the two kittens makes a clumsy swing at her muzzle, then promptly curls up beside his brother and goes back to sleep. {I don't know...it's awful to see a little thing like that so sick, though...I hope they come back soon, too.} She nuzzles Verena's other ear and sighs, curling her tail around her back legs.

Teradryn nuzzles Verena's ears, still watching the kittens over the top of his daughter's head. {I wonder what's wrong with him?} He hopes it's nothing severe; it doesn't look terribly, deathly sick, only uncomfortable, but he's still worried about it. {I hope the parents get back soon. Maybe they didn't know he was so sick.}

Verena looks puzzled at first; these little creatures barely look like cats. They look more like very large mice. Still, though, she is content with her father's answer and falls quiet again, snuggled against his chest fur. Mavikan stretches out beside them, extending her muzzle toward the kittens. They're so small.

{That's what I thought,} she sighs, {I hope the poor little thing will be all right.} She feels almost angry at the parents for leaving a sick baby alone in the forest, but she understands that sometimes these things can't be helped. At least they came along to help the poor kittens.

Teradryn spreads his front paws apart to make room for Verena in between them; he's still studying the kittens. They look even younger than his daughter. They're cats. Tiny cats, at that...he's heard of tigers--and several other big cats--before, but he's never quite seen one; these kittens don't really seem to do their reputation justice.

He looks up at Mavikan, his sides heaving with a sigh. {I hope so too...this little one looks sick.} Cats are normally good parents, though, so he's confident they'll come back soon. Which might or might not be a good thing, but he doesn't want to leave the cubs.

Mavikan returns after only a short while with Verena in her jaws. Upon being set down, Verena immediately pads over to Teradryn and curls up between his paws to stare at the kittens. What are those, Daddy? She doesn't come any closer than a few feet; they're almost bigger than she is, even though they're probably younger, and the scent is unfamiliar. She may be curious, but she's also unusually cautious for a young pup.

Mavikan gives her daughter a faint smile and sits on her haunches to inspect the kittens. She's heard how big tigers are, though she's never seen one; these two cubs, however, seem a less-than-adequate representation of the species. They'll grow up, though...well, hopefully. {I hope the parents come back soon,} she says after a moment; there's a sort of sighing note in her mental voice. She isn't impatient, just worried.

Teradryn curls up on the ground next to the kittens, resting his head on his paws and watching Mavikan as she trots off. He hopes she comes back quickly; it's decidedly risky to wait here by himself with a chance of the patrol coming by at any minute, or, possibly worse, the cubs' parents. He looks less than harmful, though, so maybe they'll jump to that conclusion as well if they happen to come by.

As one of the kittens whines Teradryn glances over at it--the poor creature doesn't look well, but he doesn't know how to help it, and he's not going to risk touching it. His tail twitches with agitation; he hates to see sick children.

Mavikan breathes a silent sigh of relief and nods, inspecting each of the cubs to make sure they're not hurt. {That's what I was thinking. That one doesn't look well, though...} It's smaller than the other one, and has a sickly look in its half-closed eyes. She frowns and shakes her head, turning away from the bush. {I'll get Verena and I'll be back in a little while.} Without waiting for an answer, she trots off to get their daughter. Those poor little cubs; she feels bad about them being left alone, but she knows it can't be helped sometimes. At least they have protection now; she just hopes the parents feel the same way and don't try and butcher them.

The wolf takes a few steps further into the brush to get a peek at the two cubs. They look too young to wander off on their own, but that means they're too young to try to get away from a threat, too. After finding the kittens he'd feel guilty about abandoning them again, even if there's little chance of them being found; he'd hold himself responsible if they were harmed. {Maybe one of us can go get Verena. I don't think we should leave.}

Mavikan winces at the thought; she had given it consideration before, and had dismissed it in light of saving whatever cubs might be out there, but now that the thought is voiced it sounds a bit...harsher. It quickly gets dismissed again, however, as her ears thrust forward to catch the soft noise from the bushes. With a glance at Teradryn, she moves forward a few feet, muzzle held low to the ground. {It's them,} she says. {There are two...they're fairly young.} She turns back to him with a questioning look. It might be better to just stay here with them, but it might raise suspicion. Besides, she isn't sure she wants to leave Verena alone much longer.

Teradryn nods, keeping his nose low to the ground; he's an excellent tracker, but felines have a distinctive scent, and so far he hasn't come across anything like it. He frowns as a slight problem occurs to him. {What are we going to do if we find any children? They might kill us if they find out we brought their children back with us.}

A moment later a soft noise wavers out from behind one of the bushes; Teradryn pokes his head in, ears perked, to look around for the source of the sound.

Mavikan nods, keeping her own head low to the ground for any unfamiliar ground scents. {I hope to the Lady they don't, really. Newcomers don't know what they get their children into...} Not all kids are as smart as Verena, of course, and there are so many real wolves here that the patrolmen aren't usually eager to try and seek them all out and kill them. Tigers, however, are quite a rarity and would probably bring a high price to bounty hunters.

Mavikan stands and pulls the pup gently back toward her. {All right. We'd better go now...maybe we'll catch up with them. I just don't want the patrolmen to find them before we do.} She gives an odd sort of shudder at the thought and stretches before she puts Verena back into the den and gives her a quick nuzzle. The pup looks disappointed at her failed attempt at play, but stays put and retreats back into the darkness of the overgrown den as her parents move away.

Mavikan trots a few paces before looking back at her mate with a frown. {I wish Vaun were here. It would make this much easier...} It's probably better that he's on his way to warn the weretigers, though. There's no telling what could happen to a pair of newcomers here; usually they get arrested or killed soon after. That's what worries her.

Teradryn's brow furrows in a manner that looks incredibly foreign on a wolf as he holds an obvious inner debate before he shakes his head. {I think Verena will be all right if we leave her in the den...she knows not to leave. I don't want to be somewhere else if you need help.} He knows quite well that it can be dangerous to go off by oneself; the weretigers might not know that, and now he's worried. They don't get newcomers to this area very often, so it's a bit of an unusual situation.

Verena gives a shrill yip and bounds toward her father, trying to tackle his muzzle. Mavikan smiles faintly at them and tugs on the pup's tail to get her to leave Teradryn alone for a minute. {Maybe you're right. The patrolmen are sometimes out about now if they're bored enough...should we go together or just one of us?} She doesn't want to attract attention, but on the other hand, if one of them is caught with Verena, there might not be much hope for either of them.

Teradryn licks her cheek and leans over to spank the ground with his front paws in front of Verena, wagging his tail to get her to play. {I know...it seems sometimes like they even WANT to harm children there...I suppose they think it keeps them from getting older...} Teradryn seems troubled by that thought; it hadn't occurred to him before. {Maybe we should look for their children to see if they're here in the woods. They might not know where the patrolmen go and where they don't.}

Mavikan sighs and stretches out beside the pup, who chews on her mother's ear for a moment before she bounces over to Teradryn to play. Mavikan flicks her ear and grins faintly at the pup. {I hope they don't have any children, or at least that they didn't bring them into the city if they do have some. I don't ever feel safe there myself...I'd die before I took Verena there.}

The female seems in a rather morbid mood today, troubled, and keeps glancing about. Maybe it's just the lack of the company of the raven, who can keep an eye on things from above, or the fact that the weretigers are somewhere about, but she seems unusually nervous.

Teradryn nods; he's a little worried now about the weretigers. Lycanthropes end up dead a little more frequently than he likes, and while he has no desire to strike back at the humans, he wishes there were something he could do. Still, if they could persuade the weretigers to help, they might do wonders for them; people tend to listen to impressive creatures such as those. Wolves seem to be a bit too common for them.

{I don't think we need to worry, but maybe we should look out for people just the same.}

Mavikan flicks an ear at him at his question, then nods and gives him a light nip on the cheek as he answers it himself. {Certainly they do. We're all the same to the humans, and we all need a place to come to. I wouldn't worry about them...I'm sure they'll try and avoid us as much as we want to avoid them. I just don't want them to get hurt because no one told them about this place.} She flops down beside the pup and nuzzles her ear, then glances back up at her mate. {I still can't help thinking there might be someone watching us. Vaun said the same thing you did, but it still makes me nervous. I probably shouldn't worry so much.}

Teradryn's demeanor changes to a slightly worried one as Mavikan mentions there are weretigers in the area. {Are you sure it's all right to let them come here?} Generally, weres of the feline type aren't quite as friendly, and they generally tend to be somewhat aloof.

He shakes his head then before Mavikan can answer, a bit ashamed of himself for even thinking of not telling them of a safe place for them to come to. {I suppose they need shelter just like the rest of us.}

The younger wolf pads after her to the den, setting the puppy down as they come within a few yards of it. {I don't think we need to worry about being watched here.}

The female lifts her muzzle to give him the pup, then gives him a gentle nuzzle on the cheek. {I was beginning to get a little nervous. It's safe enough here, but still sometimes it feels like someone's watching me.} A light shudder runs down her spine, and she begins to retreat toward the den. {Vaun just went toward the city. I heard there was a pair of weretigers that just arrived and I wanted to make sure they knew they could come here.}

There's a small, rather thin wolf resting with his head on his paws atop a small anole. He appears to simply be sun-bathing, but every once in a while his golden eyes open to rove around the wood, glancing over the foliage for a sign of Mavikan. When she finally does appear the wolf stands, his tongue lolling out of his mouth in a wolf smile. He looks up overhead for the familiar sight of the raven, but so far Vaun hasn't appeared.

He pads towards Mavikan, carefully taking the pup from her mouth. {I didn't think you were going to be back so soon.}

Posting for Mavi and Vaun at the same time 'cause I'm laaazy.

A large, lanky female wolf lounges in a patch of sun somewhere deep within the forest, beyond the boundaries where humans dare to go for fear of their lives. She looks almost like a red wolf, with sandy-dark fur tinged with red and a sort of red hood across her ears and neck (oh hell, look at the picture). She seems rather relaxed at the moment, though both ears stand upright and pivot restlessly about on her head. Nearby a pup sits, equally quiet and subdued, watching her mother.

The adult wolf yawns and gets up to stretch, then seemingly in the same motion scoops up the pup by the ruff and heads toward a thick glen of trees. She glances upward as a dark shape wings its way over her, casting a shadow across the fallen leaves and grass, but doesn't start or even make much of a reaction. The raven alights in a tree, both dark eyes watching the wolf and her pup, then disappears into the foliage, silent. Both seem to have some unspoken but unbroken communication, and have come to an agreement.
