In this passage on the names of those who immigrated to Egypt I will give the verses and very little else as I have never tried to trace the extended family of Jacob. I will leave that to others with more patience than I have been endowed with.

Genesis 46:8-27 And these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob's firstborn. 9 And the sons of Reuben; Hanoch, and Phallu, and Hezron, and Carmi. 10 And the sons of Simeon; Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanitish woman. (it appears Simeon was plowing in the wrong field for a time) 11 And the sons of Levi; Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. 12 And the sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah, and Pharez, and Zerah: but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. (God killed Er because of his wickedness and He killed Onan for his disobedience in raising children to his brothers name- Gen. 38:7-10) And the sons of Pharez were Hezron and Hamul. 13 And the sons of Issachar; Tola, and Phuvah, and Job, and Shimron. 14 And the sons of Zebulun; Sered, and Elon, and Jahleel. 15 These be the sons of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob in Padanaram, with his daughter Dinah: all the souls of his sons and his daughters were thirty and three. 16 And the sons of Gad; Ziphion, and Haggi, Shuni, and Ezbon, Eri, and Arodi, and Areli. 17 And the sons of Asher; Jimnah, and Ishuah, and Isui, and Beriah, and Serah their sister: and the sons of Beriah; Heber, and Malchiel. 18 These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter, and these she bare unto Jacob, even sixteen souls. 19 The sons of Rachel Jacob's wife; Joseph, and Benjamin. 20 And unto Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, which Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On bare unto him. 21 And the sons of Benjamin were Belah, and Becher, and Ashbel, Gera, and Naaman, Ehi, and Rosh, Muppim, and Huppim, and Ard. 22 These are the sons of Rachel, which were born to Jacob: all the souls were fourteen. 23 And the sons of Dan; Hushim. 24 And the sons of Naphtali; Jahzeel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shillem. 25 These are the sons of Bilhah, which Laban gave unto Rachel his daughter, and she bare these unto Jacob: all the souls were seven. 26 All the souls that came with Jacob into Egypt, which came out of his loins, besides Jacob's sons' wives, all the souls were threescore and six; 27 And the sons of Joseph, which were born him in Egypt, were two souls: all the souls of the house of Jacob, which came into Egypt, were threescore and ten.

I won't attempt to tie names and descendants to events or places of the future. This is a roster of the 67 (the threescore and six of verse 26 did not include Joseph who was already in Egypt) people that came into Egypt from Canaan. Joseph's wife and his sons Ephraim and Manasseh were born in the land bringing the count to 70 of the house of Jacob.

The little band of 70 will grow to the great multitude that comes out with Moses. The figure of those coming out will be between 1 and 3 Million by best estimates given the number of 600,000 (Exodus 12:37) grown men of Israel that came out in the Exodus. The 4 centuries of this prophecy is but a short time to grow to the numbers they achieved. Truly God blessed them and they were fruitful.

This short time span and its number give us a glimpse of the numbers possible from the birth of Cain and Able until the flood. The time span for this was over 16 centuries and given the long life spans of the pre flood people it would be easy to see the population of the earth could number more than a billion souls. This should give us pause to reflect on the calamity and catastrophe that befell those living at the time of the flood.

Moving ahead in time we can see a glimpse of the coming catastrophe of the tribulation period. There are approximately 4 billion people on the earth I have read. There will be very few left alive at the end.

Three times in the Bible God points to calamity as the result of unbelief and rebellion toward Him. The flood, the catastrophes that befell Egypt and the coming tribulation. The first two are warnings and types of the coming third judgment to befall humankind.

There is a saying and song that says "Little is much if God is in it". As Israel comes into Egypt they are little. When they go out they will be much. God will bless them and be with them for Abraham's sake and the oath God made to him.

Never doubt God..

Just askin'

Me: God, can I ask you a question?

God: Sure.

Me: Promise you won't get mad?

God: I promise.

Me: Why did you let so much stuff happen to me today?

God: What do you mean?

Me: Well, I woke up late.

God: Yes.

Me: My car took forever to start.

God: Okay.

Me: At lunch they made my sandwich wrong and I had to wait.

God: Hmmmmmmm

Me: On the way home, my phone went dead, just as I picked up a call.

God: All right.

Me: And on top of it all, when I got home I just wanted to soak my feet in my new foot massager and relax, but it wouldn't work!!!
Nothing went right today! Why did you do that?

God: Let me see, the Death Angel was at your bed this morning and I had to send one of the other angels to battle him for your life.
I let you sleep through that.

Me: (humbled): OH...

GOD: I didn't let your car start because there was a drunk driver on your route that would have hit you if you were on the road.

Me: (ashamed)

God: The first person who made your sandwich today was sick and I didn't want you to catch what they have, I knew you couldn't afford to miss work.

Me: (embarrassed): Ok...

God: Your phone went dead because the person that was calling was going to give false witness about what you said on that call, I didn't even let you talk to them so you would be covered.

Me: (softly) I see, God.

God: Oh and that foot massager, it had a shortage that was going to throw out all of the power in your house tonight. I didn't think you wanted to be in the dark.

Me: I'm sorry, God.

God: Don't be sorry, just learn to trust me.....in all things, the good and the bad.

Me: I will trust you.

God: And don't doubt that my plan for your day is always better than your plan.

Me: I won't God. And let me just tell you God, thank you for everything today.

God: You're welcome child. It was just another day being your God, and I love looking after my children.

reckon God would tell me why he let me step on that nail today? (grin)

A bad day! Started remodeling the laundry room and stepped on a nail. Went out to level the room as it had settled over the 33 yrs since we built. Noticed water dripping from a drain pipe under the laundry room.

Had to dig out enough space to let me squeeze under the floor joists in order to cut out the bad pipe and glue in new sections.

I am soaking my foot in Peroxide while typing this and reflection on your post. I'm also still mulling Romans 8:28 while soaking my sore foot and resting before trekking up to the garden to get the ripe tomatoes.

Just think what might have happened if he hadn't let you step on the nail, HB. You might have dropped something on your foot and broken it. And that leak in the pipe? If you hadn't had that spring up, it might have burst and flooded the whole laundry room.
Trust in the Lord in all things. *-)

All kidding aside, I'm sorry you had a rough day, Dwight. Tomorrow HAS to be better, right? 8-)

Back in the spring I was working on the barn and taking down some boards. One got covered in hay and I stepped on it with the nail sticking up. It went in through my shoe, through my foot and out the top. The board was about 6 or 8 feet long and the nail was on the end. Every time I tried to lift my foot the board would come up with it and cause the nail to work like a pry bar in my foot. Ouch!!!

The twins were up there with me and playing with the goats. I called to them and told them I needed them to run down to the house and get Granny as I was on a nail and couldn't get off. I told them to tell Granny to bring heavy scissors to cut my shoe off. They immediately took off on a dead run and after what seemed ages they came back up with Granny and a pair of heavy cutting shears.

Dale cut the shoe off my foot and I tried to lift my foot off the nail but the board still tried to come up with the effort. I told Dale to step on the board up close to my foot to hold the board still. I then reached up and grabbed a rafter and pulled myself off.

After that it was a trip to the doctor to get it cleaned and a Tetanus shot.

Dale told me later that Tirzah had burst through the door squalling and saying: "Pop is stuck on a nail and can't get off. Will he die?" Granny re-assured her this would not be fatal and they both calmed down. They insisted on going to the doctor with me.

If this didn't do anything else it gave us all some memories that we will laugh about for a long time.

I'm wincing in pain just reading about it. You keep so much inside you. I don't remember you telling us about this, but I remember when you built the barn for the goats. You probably casually mentioned stepping on a nail--not that it went clean through your shoe AND foot. OUCH!!!

It was no big deal after I got the nail out. It ached for a while but I didn't take any pain medicine and believe me I would have if it really hurt.

... that's all I can say. I'm glad you went to the doctor and got the tetanus shot, though. I'll bet that hurt worse than the nail, huh? *-)

Little stick and that's it.

One of the funny things about the whole deal was when I got to the minor emergency clinic the nurse was cleaning the wound. I had already explained what had happened and she was cleaning the bottom of my foot around the hole. She worked her way on up to the top of my foot and exclaimed:
"Gee, there is a hole here on top too!" DUH!!

Tough? Not really. I had to put on a brave and tough face for the twins. ;-)

What's that?

The last real vacation I had was back in the early 70's. Went to Disney World with family and friends.

Other than that I have been able to take off work to work around the house and also spend time with family when they come in from Montana.

Not complaining as I have enjoyed my time away from my career.

A bad day at home is better than a good day at work! :-)

I have visited my sibs regularly since Mom died in 2008 (and traveled some before that but not as much). They live in Raleigh NC, Orlando and Philly. Have had a wonderful time with each of them and their families. This time the four of us got together without any spouses and it was a very special time.

Dori - not even Bill has been to the board unless he's messing with the numbers. One visitor all day and that was me :(

I have been saying howdy off and on, but when no one else has posted, I move on to other places. We need something to focus on for that site, don't we? Here, it is scripture. Maybe we can get Bill to tell us more about prepping there? And Dave is always good for some funny stuff. Is he on vacation?
My daughter Kathy from Atlanta is here and we're doing Meesa's shower tomorrow... PLUS they have my kitchen totally stripped and are laying tile, so I haven't been around too much on ANY board. I guess you'll have to be hostess this weekend at both places and then I'll get back to them on Monday. PROMISE!!! 8-)
